We have a male kitten who has medium/long hair and is a smokey black color and we can't think of a name..we don't want anything hippie...so no shadow, moonshine or any of that....just something simple and cute!

I always wanted to name a black cat Aubergine, which is another name for an eggplant (which has a dark purplish-black rind). Or, you could find out what "black," "night," "dark," etc. are in other languages and use one of those. You can use Babelfish to do this.

My ex wanted to name a black kitty Wisdom. We used the name on an orange and white kitty and called him Wizzy.

Sooty (soot is what is left from the ashes of burning.. it's kind of a charcoal-black-grey colour - my Nana had a cat many, many years ago with the name Sooty... always liked it)
