I'm not calling AIDS a gay disease.I am pointing out that many many Christians and others do think AIDS is a gay disease and God's punishment.I can't believe people still think that though.

Fr Chuck: Check your facts, oh faithful one... It was a problem among heterosexuals in Africa DECADES before homosexuals in America contracted and spread it. Even still, less than 10% of the gay community is HIV+ .

Because most preachers, such as yourself, think that homosexuals are responsible for the disease, straight people don't even bother to get tested for the virus, thus don't know yet that they are infected. Most homosexuals get tested on a regular basis.

It is estimated that 80% of the population that is infected hasn't ever been tested for the virus.

Any person, religious or otherwise, who thinks that a virus or bacteria can tell the difference between sexual orientations is borderline retarded.

I don't, actually, think ANYBODY still believes this nonsense. I believe there are still some people who make those claims just to reinforce their hatred and bigotry.

My God, are you f@cking ignorant! God did not let heterosexuals get AIDS for 1 and 2, it is not a GAY DISEASE!
This disease came from an animal (an ape) and it had gotten out of hand and spreaded towards human beings. Because in the 60's and 70's their were a lot of promiscuous people and the only thing you had to worry about were STDs and crabs, that sex was just rampant! Everyone was having sex! The reason why you think it is a "gay disease" is because there were a lot of homosexuals that was married and was having their thing on the side, because they were still "in the closet."
But just like there were many men having rampant, unprotected sex, so were many women out there. And, then, with all the drugs and needles being passed around getting their next "fix", they passed it that way too.
So, before you start blaming AIDS on GOD or GAYS, I suggest you blame anyone who, sadly, fooled around unprotected and, for those who found out they had this and did not care, passed it to whomever-men, women, sex, needles-and try not to make ignorant comments like this. Hell, why not blame the children born with HIV and/or AIDS who did not ask to come into this world.

Man, you got a lot of answers from people who did not get the irony of your question.People who think God has anything to do with AIDS should seriously do some studying on viruses and how they work. They don't select who they are going to effect and they don't discriminate. They will spread to anyone who allows them to spread and flourish. And even in this day and age, with all the education we have on this topic, there are many heterosexuals who still think it is a gay disease and so they are immune. And the Catholics are against condoms... Makes you wonder how long diseases like this will take to effect enough people to be taken more seriously and not just be used as a scape goat for hating gay people. Many don't realize that the gays are often far more well informed about this disease and are also often far more likely to wear a condom and do everything to not get it.

Well 'cause a gay guy had sex with a girl and gave it to her or maybe some straight people came in contact with a gay guy that had it (blood wise) and got it. Also, the disease is not a human disease its a disease that was brought back from the jungle, some guy had sex with a monkey and then had sex with a women and contracted the disease. I think. I imagine a lot of stuff, maybe I should stop smoking pot when I answer questions.

Diseases are not prejudiced.

Not to mention: neither is GOD. I do not believe that God makes something a "gay" thing or non-gay thing.
There are many venereal diseases that are less dominant in the Gay community than the heterosexual communities as well. I don't think anyone would wonder why God lets gay people get Heterosexual diseases.

AIDS is not a gay disease. It was thought that because gay men were the first large population to contract it. It is thought by some scientists to be started by contact with monkey kidneys as a result of polio vaccination research. The way gay men have sex make it easier to get AIDS. However it was started count it as one of the signs of the last days.

First off..AIDS is not just a gay disease. God does not give anyone aids. He gives us free will to make the decision to have unsafe sex with someone who has..or unfortunately..we catch it by being infected by using a contaminated needle..which is also our free will. The only way we can get it accidental is if we are infected thru a blood transfusion..but that is not an act caused by God either.

Well it became a problem in the Gay Community but many Gays donated blood and the blood was still infected.

Also promiscous Sex with multiple partners regardless of Orientation can lead to a spread of AIDS, AIDS is also spread through sharing Needles (especially in Drug use).

Most cases of AIDS are spread through Sinful actions regardless of Sexual Orientation.

First of all you really can't blame God. Second of all AIDS is not just a "gay" disease. If someone contracts the virus that is just part of life. Sometimes we make risky choices that put us at a higher risk that's just fact. Even "careful" people can contract the disease. It's not God sending down punishment for sins. "It rains on the just and the unjust" its just life.

It's not a "gay" disease. Anyone can contract AIDS. However since a lot of people think only gay people can contract AIDS, they don't protect themselves like they should. And, God doesn't let people have AIDS no more than he lets people catch a cold. It's a virus.
