Some of these wines are white (riesling, ice wines). Sangria is a decent choice if you want sweet, as in sugar sweet. For a true red grape varietal, try a beaujolais. This is a grape that originated in France that is light and fruity, notice that I did not say sweet. It's a great starting point for beginners. If you go the route of dessert wines (ports), be careful. Those cheap ones (not inexpensive, cheap) are pretty nasty. They are the ones you usually see the guy sitting on the corner with the brown bag half trashed. Thunderbird and Wild Irish Rose? Come on. You can't even consider them wines, they are they slop that no other winery have the guts to put in a bottle with a label on it.

I think you would be very happy with a Sangria if you want a truly sweet red wine. It's nearly berry-flavored. Let some pineapple, watermelon, and other fruit sit in a pitcher with the sangria in the fridge for a few hours first, and you will have a great, sweet drink originating - I think - in Spain. At least they drink a lot of it there.

P.S. Beware the headache the next day! The sugars in the fruit and wine can sometimes lead to a killer headache.

Try Electra Brand Red wine. They also have a white wine. Both are very sweet, almost juice-like. Even if you aren't a drinker you should like these. Also, any brand of Riesling. It is less sweet than the Electra but also very light and fruity.

Shianti is likewise a candy purple wine, and sherry. and additionally till now noted, seem for raspberry or blackberry wine rather. purple wine is an aquired style. no one's born with a love for the style of Merlot. initiate with some thing candy and artwork your way up, and finally you will get used to it. by employing definition, port wine is made to be sweeter. it quite is fermented for a shorter time span, permitting extra of the sugars to stay as sugar. So this may be a good place to start.

Brietenbach , Roadhouse Red. Red Raspberry is my favorite from them though. They have alot of other sweet wines that are great too. The ice wine from them is very very good & sweet, a little expensive but worth it !! ;-)

Johannesburg Riesling, late harvest. Sweet, but not too much. I heard Sangria is good, too but I haven't tried that yet.

Hope that helps!
