A few weeks ago I smashed my finger by a car door... It bled alot and the skin where the cuticle is fell..well just a piece, i didnt feel my finger for almost 4 hrs cause of the pain. I thought it would heal so i didnt see a doctor but now my nail is purple and there is a crack where the door hit (which is where the cuticle was) it also doesnt hurt anymore. Should I go to the doctor? What happens if I dont go?? can anything bad happen?

dunno.
read this info re: nail injuries: http://www.webmd.com/hw/skin_and_beauty/hw257352.asp
and - http://www.emedicinehealth.com/nail_injuries/page3_em.htm
if you're still not sure, better to err on the side of caution- get checked, what's the worse that can happen, if you do?

It really has been too long since the accident for you to go to a doctor now. You will probably lose the fingernail , but it should be ok. My brother smashed his finger years ago in much the same way and mom took him to the hospital only 6 hours later and they told her there was nothing they could do. Just keep it clean and your finger should heal without much problem. If it does start showing signs of infection, most definitely have your doctor look at it.

If you can move it without pain, and there is no pain on pressue, then do nothing except hot fomentations and keeping it clean. You will probably lose the nail though. Poking a hole in the nail is when you have a haematoma causing pressure and pain and you want to releive the pressure, you should not do it yourself.
You will have to go see a doctor if you see signs on infection: pain on pressure, redness, hotness or later pus oozing from it. If you can though, go see a doctor now.

It wouldn't hurt to see a doctor.
Can you bend your finger? If not, it's likely it's broken and needs to be set.
If so, then you probably just have a blood blister under your nail, that will eventually grow out, but it will take quite a while.

Nah your cool it just takes time to heal, a doctor won't do **** but maybe wrap it up or somthing. I got my finger nail smashed off by an airhockey puck and it was brusied for a long time but thats all.

Please go see a doctor! You could have damaged the matrix where the nail forms. If it is cracked, the nail could be disfigured forever. The bone in the tip of your finger could also be cracked or broken. Seeing professional would be worth it.

Can you bend the finger? If so, it's not broken. Does the finger look normal (not bent out of shape), besides discolored and swollen. If so, then it is probably not dislocated. If you're ok with it, fine. But I would have a dr look at my finger.

deep purple colour is just the bruising under the nail, nothing to worry about. If it starts to "weep" or smell funny (puss coming out) see doc A.S.A.P

Should you go to the Dr? Yes. Why? Because you are concerned enough to even ask.

No one here can help you except yourself. You need to GO to the hospital and have emergency check it out for you. You should have gone earlier.
