The Bible says that men are supposed to be the provider, and the woman the nurturer. It may sound sexist, but if you think about it it's the healthiest way. If a man doesn't even try to provide for his family, he's sinning. If he just can't, for whatever reason, it's out of his power.

In 2 Thessalonias 3:10-11. For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. (11) For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.

he who does not work should not EAT.

a lazy person does not deserve to be feed.

Jesus did not feed the masses, but only those that were with him in isolated places and then ofter a couple of days.

In general our good works of feeding the poor is really not bibical, we should have some job program where they have to do some work or labor before they are feed.

1 Timothy 5:11 - Certainly if anyone does not provide for those who are his own, and especially for those who are members of his household, he has disowned the faith and is worse than a person without faith.

Of course I guess that applies to a woman who is head of her own household as well.
