The prohibition against alcoholic beverages and "hot drinks" (i.e. coffee and tea) is found in a revelation received by Joseph Smith known as the "Word of Wisdom". We consider this revelation to be scripture and it has been canonized as part of the book called Doctrine and Covenants. Many members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints also avoid caffeinated beverages because of the principles taught in the Word of Wisdom. The Word of Wisdom also prohibits tobacco use, and encourages us to eat healthy foods and to do so with thanksgiving. It includes beautiful promises of health, wisdom, and stamina to those who follow it.

It's in Docterine and Covenants, section 89. It talks about how strong drinks, such as alcohol, are not good for the belly. It also says tobacco is not good. Caffeine is something Mormons believe in limiting, not completly abstaining from. It's called the Word of Wisdom and it's just about keeping your body healthy.

The non use of alcohol and tobacco is a Word of Wisdom only. It is suggested not to use those products as we all know they are not good for you.
