Varies for everyone. Some people take a year off and never come back. They find that life is more engaging or more intrinsically rewarding than college. Some people take a year off and find themselves far more focused and more determined to get a degree when they return (there's nothing like living life on minimum wage to motivate you to finish a degree).
You'll know, within a semester's time, whether or not you want to return.
Finishing college is a good idea. Sometimes obtaining a degree just to show prospective employers that you finished a course of study is a good thing...more important than the nature or major of the degree itself.
Good luck

You are getting good advice from the group. It is very easy to take a year off and end up as a dropout and that is not what you want. True or False?
If your problem the heavy workload you can request to do the minimum credits for the year rather than stay away. As it is with many things in life- try to keep a steady rhythm/pattern in your in your activities. A year off can break your study rhythm.

it depends on what you do when your off
taking a year off college to do nothing in particular is a very bad idea
taking a year off college to earn money that you need or to join the peace corp and help others or seriously study something that you can't study in college or to try out for the olympics or whatever
can be a really good idea if you value it, you have the means to support it, and it works for you and yours

Sometimes we need to take a break and see if we are truly going were we want to go.Also take the time to see maybe you might be happy in other fields , but what ever you do go back and finish college. In the long run you will be ahead of the game .

Keep it going but just take general courses so you can apply it to another major if you change your mind on majors. Try one on-line course every semester for the year you want to take off. When you want to resume your education, you will have 4, 3 credit courses under your belt already.

Yes, because you may decide you dont want to go back. Listin being in school can be fun but it sucks if you have to work and go to school. So hurry up and finish. Than you can take all the breaks you want.

Yes, it's a bad idea. It just makes it more difficult to go back.

Yes, I took off a couple of times, and the last time I never 'got around to' going back....believe me, it can happen, unless you are very determined. But if you're that determined, stay in there and finish it! hehe

Not a bad idea if you are not sure about what you want to do with your life.
