Most Christians will tell you yes. But ignore them!
Just be yourself and tell your friends to be themselves.
If you are worried about God just know that God loves everyone. No one on Earth today is God nor are they able to speak w/ any certainty what God would say about anything. And if they presume to be so arrogant to do so they are the ones God will punish.
Live your life as you see fit...that's why you have free will.
Good Luck!

Yes. Homosexuality is a sin. Whether you believe in Christianity or not, it is a sin nonetheless. All of my arguments are based on the premise of Christendom, and therefore, while some who do not agree with me will find it irrelevant, it is true.
Argument # 1
Genesis 19:4-5, 24
4 Before they [Lot and his visitors] had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom - both young and old - surrounded the house. 5 They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight?? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them."
... 24 Then the LORD rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah - from the LORD out of the heavens.
Do I really have to explain the reasoning behind this one??
-------------
Argument # 2
1 Chorinthians 6:9-11
9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God?? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10 nor theives.... will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
I use the verse above not only to make it clear that the homosexuality issue doesn't differ between the Old and New Testament but also to dispute those who say that all homosexuals will go to hell. Any sinner can come back to Jesus Christ at any time. This next verse is to refute those who say that homosexuality is acceptable within Christianity or that even if it isn't 'right' then it should at least be tolerated. I mean, tolerance isn't one of the fruits of the spirit, it's something that is not a part of Christianity. Note when God told the Israelites to conquer Canaan, He didn't say "Make friends with them". He said to wipe them out, something that involves no tolerance.
However, back to the subject at hand... homosexuality and the 'correctness' of it.
Romans 6:1(b)-2
1... Shall we go on sinning so that grace [forgiveness] may increase? 2 By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?
We made clear that homosexuality is a sin (no discreptancy between old and new testament) and now we see that continuing such a lifestyle is by no means condoned by Christianity.
One more thing, that last answer before mine, mentioned being of the homosexual tendency as being genetic, a.k.a., you are born with it.
OK, outside of religion, there have been homosexual professors who are trying to prove that being gay is genetic, and have found that, to their dismay, it IS NOT genetic.
The most simple experiment, identical twins. They performed (i don't know what kind) tests on them. One was gay and one wasn't. In identical twins, their genetic makeup is exactly the same. I don't need to say anymore.

Yes it is.
It is also a sin to be a liar.
It is also a sin to be an adulterer.
It is also a sin to cheat.
It is also a sin to be a thief.
It is also a sin to lust.
No one can live without sinning, which is why God provided for us a perfect sacrifice acceptable to Him. He gave us the law to point out all the wrong we do and how we miss the mark of holiness. He gave us thousands of years to prove we can't live a holy and righteous life on our own. Then He sent His Son -- Jesus of Nazareth.
Accepting this and that Jesus paid your debt, is how you are recognized as righteous before God. It doesn't mean your life will be perfect or that life becomes rosy garden path, it means that when you die and stand before the Creator, He will see that you accepted His Son's sacrifice and that you bill has been stamped with His blood, "Paid in full".

This is what I cannot understand.
If it is a sin to act on being gay, why did God permit people to be born with that orientation. It does not seem fair. It is discrimination. People I know who are gay, are not so by choice, it's just who they are. Why shouldn't they have someone to love? I don't really agree with the 'free love' theory and just sleeping with anyone who comes along but that goes for straights as well as gays. Everybody deserves to be happy and loved not matter who they are.

Why would it be, unless God is some extremely sick perverted asshole. If you believe that god shapes us and makes us who we are, which is something I don't believe, then you should know that being born gay could never be a sin if he made you like that. The whole issue on gay marriage is, quite frankly, ridiculous, considering are Bill of Rights.
The first bit is, of course, from a riligious standpoint, which is what I think you were looking for.

Although popular belief would tell you it is fine to be gay, it is a sin.
In Genesis God destroyed the cities of Sodom and Gommorrah because of this type of sexual immorality. Some angels visted lot and they wanted to have sex with these male angels.

The Bible says it is an abomination for a man to lie with a man as with a woman, or a woman to lie with a woman as with a man {Lev 18:22; 20:13}. The bible says that because of certain abominations such as homosexuality, a land will vomit out its inhabitants {Lev 18:25}. The apostle Paul called it "shameful," the result of being given up by God to "vile passions" {Rom. 1:24-27}. In the Old Testament, those who practiced these things were removed from the congregation of Israel by execution. We are told in the New Testament that those who practice homosexuality will not enter the kingdom of God {1Cor. 6:9,10}. The apostle Paul's shows homosexuality as a final order of rebellion against God. When people exchange the truth of God for a lie, and begin to worship the creature instead of the Creator, they are given up to evil. When values are turned upside down and moral anarchy appears, men burn with lust for other men and women burn for women, and they will receive in their own bodies the punishment for their actions {Rom 1:22-27}. From a biblical standpoint, the rise of homosexuality is a sign that a society is in that last stages of decay
