Atheists only reject the existance of some higher being, and that's the only thing that atheists have in common with each other. There's no code of ethics or anything like that, like there would be in a religion. Atheism is just no theism.
"...there is no single ideology that all atheists share, nor does atheism have any institutionalized rituals or behaviors."

Biology. Human beings have evolved far enough to create a society based on a principal of self preservation. However, this principal is supported by a "let live" notion that keeps people safe from one another. Ethics and morality are derived from this idea of caring about the safety of one another and the notion of creating societal standards to further the advancement of our species and society. In essence, a world where people respect one another and care about each others well being benefits the species and improves the quality of life for generations to come.

That's the flaw with atheism; if there really isn't any truth that can be said to be an absolute, then any kind of morality can't pertain to anything other than the person himself; therefore, we really have no right to say we're any better than Hitler. By the atheistic version of morality, Hitler was a freakin saint; he followed what he considered right with everything he had.

Atheist live by their own code. The evidence would tell us that it serves them well. Less than 1% of the Federal prison population are Atheists. Over 70% are Christian. Go figure........
C BASS: People like you (above) try in vain to twist simple logic in an effort to support your belief that non-believers are bad people. But you make absolutely no sense. Atheists think Hitler was a saint? This is the most idiotic thing I've read all day.
It's because of morons like you, Mr C bass, that Atheists and Agnostics get accused of bashing Christians. In actuality, we usually save our Christian bashing for dim-witted zealots like yourself.

I find it bizarre that people equate belief in God/god with any kind of moral code. Beyond that, the laws of this land (U.S) are founded on the right to self-govern. Why would that basic concept not apply to each person to live the right way without fear of hell and damnation? Anything less is a form of slavery.
Edited to add: Can one really claim to be "moral" if they are behaving a certain way to appease their God/god?
