Your teeth move your entire life. I had my braces before my wisdom teeth grew in, so when they came they messed my mouth up a bit. Wearing a retainer will definitely help. Daily wear is best, but a royal pain - a few days a week should be more than sufficient, unless you find your teeth moving a lot.

Yes, I had braces as a teen.. then again as an adult.. just had them taken off just about one year ago.. and that took 2.5 yrs.. and I do not regret it at all.... It is very common for teeth to shift after braces.. and these days with the great retaining devices the orthodontists have; so far there is NO issue with me... I wear a retainer each night, and miss it when I forget (which is not often) - and yes, this helps.. but I also have a permanent lingual retainer in my upper anteriors (the first four teeth in the middle upper teeth) and a lingual retainer in the lower anteriors.. from the canine to canine.. and I hardly notice at all...
worth it? yes.

I had braces as a teen, and was told I only needed to wear my retainer for two years. So I did, only now I am going in for braces again. My dentist told me I needed to have always worn my retainers. Different docs, different opinions. All I can say is in my case I wish I would have still worn a retainer, could have saved me a couple grand and the hassle of braces round two.

Ok I had braces when I was a teen. They said I would have to wear my retainer every day for the rest of my life. I wore it for about six months, then dumped it. Never worn it sense and my teeth have done just fine and that was over 7 years ago. Never moved. So in reality..don't wear your retainers..they are just going to be a big pain in the butt.

im 30 and just got my braces off. the said to wear my retainer for the rest of my life. i notice that when i put it in after not wearing it for awhile, my mouth hurts so bad. so, i guess your teeth do move constantly like they say. my sister and uncle are in the dental field and they say if youwant your teeth to stay straight, then you need to wear your retainers. all i know is i just paid $3500 so im gonna do as they say. after spending that much money id be pretty pissed off if my teeth were less than perfect.

Yes, you have to wear a retainer day and night for a long time then aventually just at night, otherwise your teeth will shift back into place and the retainer is to prevent your teeth from shifting back, I am in the retainer stage now, email me if you have any questions at tacogirl4959@yahoo.com
