And then finding out beyond a shadow of a doubt that he never even existed? Who then would receive your ridicule and disdain? you could't rag on the Atheists any more, could you?

For anyone who is Christian and a kind person, my apologies. My question is aimed at the bible thumpers only, not the rational people.

Whether or not one believes that Jesus was the Messiah (or "Christ") is not the same as "finding out beyond a shadow of a doubt" whether he ever existed. One can, if they choose, distiguish the historical figure ("the man") from the religious figure ("God made man".

Although the historical existance of Jesus - the man - has often been questioned, there are those who believe that he did, most likely, exist. There is an alleged reference to him in the court records of Tiberius Caesar. There are also possible references in the historical writings of Pliny the Younger, Josephus (who also mentions John the Baptist and James the Just), Suetonius, and Tacitus.

And I thought that Atheists didn't just not believe in Christianity, but that they did not believe in any religion at all because they do not believe in the existance of God?

As for the claim (below) that "Well Jesus is an historical figure with more historical documentation than Julius Cesar himself." What are you basing that claim on?????

As for "iworkforepoch" comment regarding atheists not having an morals or ethics because they don't have a belief is some deity or deities - various schools of philosophy teach ethics that are not guided by some sort of religous beliefs, so how can you claim that just because one doesn't believe in religion then one has no means of determining right from wrong?

And *ahem* there are plenty of "religious" people and religious politicians - or at least those that claim to be religious - who ARE corrupt!

And if you do some research into the Founding Fathers of our country - those who drafted the framework for our government - you will find that many of them were not religious or were, at best, Deists. This country wasn't founded by the Puritans/Pilgrims.

Well Jesus is an historical figure with more historical documentation than Julius Cesar himself. The historians of Jesus' day reported his life along with all the other notable occurrences of the time period they report. As for belief in God or disbelief: You'd have to be God to know there is no God beyond a shadow of a doubt. The best you can logically say at this point is that you are not sure there is a God. You can't even say that Jesus never existed because the historical documentation is too obvious. The most you can say at this point is that you are not sure Jesus is what the Bible says he is. And I am sure from your question that this is not a thing you really want to know beyond a shadow of a doubt. But I can see why you are upset with "Christians". They're not my cup of tea either. They tend to believe that Bush is a good guy. The pray for him (not a bad idea) but under the false impression he is God's man. Sometimes they act like naive fanatics. I think it is healthy to voice sincere doubts. If you are sincerely not sure about God and Jesus, that is a heck of a lot better than belief by rote that many "Christians" profess. Yes, I have endured the constant harangue by a well meaning pain in the derriere relative insisting my son should not be allowed to be corrupted by E games on Game Cube. I take it that I am corrupting her kids who love Game Cube too. Yeah, give me some beer chugging real person over some stick in the mud, proper "Christian". Real faith is not blind. Real faith comes from well reasoned premise/logic understanding. Real faith stands up to critical thinking. Real faith survives being tested. Real faith is not shaken. Religion is legalism in robes. Legalism is what we don't like. Legalistic people make other people's lives miserable.

What kind of question is this? Of course you have your radical "crazy Christian" but most Christians are kind and tolerant people. The bible teaches us to be kind and forgiving. The problem with atheist, especially those in government is they feel that they have nothing to be accountable for, thus what keeps them from being corrupt? According to their beliefs, nothing. And no matter what the liberal nedia sais this country was founded, day one from the day the pilgrims landed, on the christian religion. Also it is completely plausible to say that jesus was here, and impossible to prove he wasn't. I guess you'll just have to wait and find out.

If you stop and think of it, the only way you will ever discover if the Heavenly Father does not exist is when you are six foot under. Believing in God Almight relies on faith only. There is no scientific (human) proof he exists.

However, as I have told Atheists before, If he doesn't exist, then all this time believing and worshiping him was just a waste of my "Earthly" time. However, if he does exist, then I have gained everything possible.....

There's really no point to this litte "what if?" quesrion; we could just as easily say "Wouldn't it suck if, after all your arrogance and patronizing of others, you found out that you were wrong the whole time and God existed?"

Problem is, both questions don't ask anything important, neither will prove anything, and both are just generalisations; not all Christians sermonize and pontificate, and not all non-believers are arrogant or patronizing.
