Never feel obligated to go anywhere you don't want to!

Only if you want to. Per etiquette rules, an invitation does not obligate you to go to the wedding. Politely decline. It does not obligate you to get a gift for this person, either.

If you don't want to go, don't, unless your mother may get upset with you, if so, go to make peace. If she doesn't care then don't bother..sounds like gift fishing to me.
When I got invited to weddings I did not want to go to, I played along that I was going and on the day of the wedding..I was awfully sick lol

If you don't feel right going then don't go. You should still send a card with your best wishes. If you want drop some money in as a gift. But sending a card will make you both feel good, she'll be happy that you thought about her on her happy day.

Sure, why not?
I went to a distant cousin's wedding (whom I didn't really know) so I could see some of my other relatives that I hadn't seen for awhile.

If you don't know her that well and don't feel like going, don't go. Brides send out a lot of invitations and don't expect everyone to be able to make it.

First, you have to decide if there is any good reason to go...wedding food? booze? single guys that need dance partners? make your mom feel good? good excuse to get a new outfit?

YES reunite with the family, get to know her, you might like her plus it's a time to see other family you might not know. GO!!

no why waste your time and energy...unless your mom is all gung ho about you going dont go. It'd probably be boring and full of awkward moments. and they'll expect a gift.
