I live in Indianapolis and the other day there was a man somewhere waving a gun and even discharged it into the air. He was in an apartment hallway (I think) and pointed the gun at an officer, who then shot and killed him.

The news had some neighbor of the guy on tv saying that "the police killed the guy" and that "now (they) have another dead body and the police are covering it up."

The police said it was a clean shoot and everything.

I'm really just venting but I guess my actual question is why the hell are people so stupid anbd disrespectful? You'd think the neighbor would at least be relieved that there isn't some nut case waving a gun outside now.

Brother, we have been taught that the public is so quick to call the police and even quicker to tell US how we should or shouldn't do our job. The news is just there to further the hatred of Police.

Police are taught to Protect the citizens. This guy was outside shooting a gun in the air, mind you there was kids around. All that matters is no bystander was hurt or worst no Officer was hurt. It was a good shoot, enough said.

You know what? You just can't please everyone. Of course there is always some idiots who say that the police are bad, etc. I bet they would change their tune if someone was banging on THEIR door with a gun and a butcher knife in the middle of the night! They would be the first ones to call 911 and cry like a baby if the police weren't there in less than 30 seconds. I'm not sure who are mentally ill- the people waving the guns or the people who complain when they get what they deserve!!!

We had a similar incident where I live not too long ago...the difference? It was a female police officer...the reaction was the total opposite, I don't even think she was investigated.

My point is, people are quick to draw conclusions depending on the individuals involved. If it's a white police officer and an African American...race card, police brutality, racial profiling, investigations, suspended without pay, riots, any number of things can happen. It's not to say opinions aren't valid, however, we have to look at everyone's point of view. African Americans have been oppressed for a long time, it's likely that in situations such as this one, things will re-surface.

We have to look at all people's interpretation of things because most likely, the truth lies somewhere in between.

People are so stupid because they are niave and have no idea what is going on in the world today. They do not realize that by acting on their authority police officers are saving their butts. An tougher gun laws are not going to make the people using guns for crimes use them any less. You actually think that guy's gun was purchased legally or registered? Heck No! Tougher gun laws take guns out of victims hands not suspects. I happen to have pride in a country that arms its police officers who are willing to take a criminals life to save their own or the lives of innocent bystanders.

The same thing happened around here. A woman called police in to detain her son who was going awall. The son when police arrived had a large butcher knife in his hands and was rushing at police trying to stab them. Now remember the MOTHER called the police in to detain HER SON....

The police tell the son to drop the knife. No good. So they then mace the son (please note they maced him first) After several macing attempts the man still kept trying to come at them with the knife. Finally they said, drop the knife or we will be forced to shoot. The son didn't drop the knife, he rushed at them yet again, and they fired.

Soooo the mother is beyond mad at this time screaming how could they kill her baby. In my opinion..one, she should have been able to calm her own son down. Two, he tried to kill police officers, deadly force was met with deadly force. Three, he was given numerous attempts to put down the knife, he refused each one. Four, if that was my butt that was about to get stabbed...well let me put it this way..I don't plan on going to the hospital with a stab wound..soo it's either me or him and I prefer it be him.

So on the news for like weeks everyone was hating the police and blaming them for that man's death. But no one bothered to think what might have happened if that guy lived and had killed those police officers. Then they would all be saying that man should die for what he did..so which is worse..killing a man before he kills someone when he is on the verge of killing or waiting until it is too late?

I'm just glad that the officers here in Britain dotn carry weapons..let the trained professionals, ie Army, keep them. The police had Rapid Response units, why carry guns themselves?

Why are you angry at your neighbour? You should be angry about lenient gun laws. Get guns out of the shops and youll definatly see a reduction in crime

Honestly, I don't even watch the local news anymore because it destroys my faith in humankind. I think that real root to the ignorance is that nobody wants to take responsibility for their actions. The guy that was on your local news saying that stuff- and all the others like him on local news all over America are total losers- and a loser is going to stick up for some other loser. I live in MA and Springfield MA, has been destroyed by poverty, drugs and crime. It's a disgrace- my answer is to not live there and to not go there whenever I can!

I live just north of Indy, so I know the incident you're talking about. It sounded like the guy was a danger to society, and it's too bad that the policeman had to shoot him, but what else could he have done? I agree with you, people are stupid. They make the IPD out to be the bad guys, and they're not. This incident also happened in broad daylight, when more people are likely to be out and about. It's too bad, but I'm glad the IPD was doing its job.

Sounds like you believe the police. A lot of people at Aushwitch believed the police too. I'd just like to hear both sides of the story.

and you have to ask why does the news channel show this, if this was an obvious good shooting, they wanted to try and cause some doubt, they wanted to show the police as possible bad people.

The news servcie has for years tainted and projected the news in certain ways.
