I used to believe it was due to misunderstanding the nature of homosexuality.
After years of listening to their nonsense and attempting to correct them, I am beginning to think it is more sinister than that.
They claim they are against homosexuality because homosexuals are trying to harm traditional family values and destroy the sanctity of marriage. Meanwhile, they do nothing to stop divorce, out of wedlock child bearing, and spouse abuse... all doing more to harm to traditional family values and the sanctity of marriage than any homosexual could ever do.
It has recently occurred to me that they are simply picking on gay people to hide from the fact that they can't seem to make any of it work... and they are afraid we will do it all better than they will.
Just my two points worth.

You catgorized the gays among child molesters, murderers, rapists and such...
I didnt say it...YOU said it.
While those others get their due by law the gay people are accepted by law and now try and make their way into church.
But as long as they are gay the church doors remain shut like the gates of heaven.
Being gay is sin that sends you to hell - not even Jesus will help unless that person repents, or do you think the precious blood of the son of GOD was shed so some people can carry on with their sexual perversion -
Jesus even accpeted a hooker - but only after she stopped being one!
And if some day soon child molesters get accepted by society the church doors will still remain shut for those too - unless they repent

Look, the whole argument that gays are born that way and should be accepted, compares to, say, people stealing, lying.
Anyone with children will agree, children lie without anyone teaching them. Also, they will shoplift without anyone setting the example.(I Did.).
So, unless you want to agree and demand that every type of behavior needs to be accepted, including child molesters, murderersw, rapists, etc., maybe you just might see the need to take a stand against all wicked behavior.
Being homosexual, is a sin. The same as stealing, adultery and murder are sins. All sin is behavior that can be overcome with a knowledge of truth.
The BIble supports this at 1 Cor 6:9 What! Do YOU not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men, 10 nor thieves, nor greedy persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit God’s kingdom. 11 And yet that is what some of YOU were. But YOU have been washed clean, but YOU have been sanctified, but YOU have been declared righteous in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and with the spirit of our God.
There is no reason to be mean to people living sinful lifes. Jesus
described people living in sin like this at Mt9:36 On seeing the crowds he felt pity for them, because they were skinned and thrown about like sheep without a shepherd.
The fact that he felt pity, while the priests held the people in contempt,(Mt 9:11 But on seeing this the Pharisees began to say to his disciples: “Why is it that YOUR teacher eats with tax collectors and sinners?” ), shows that real followers of Christ, need to be ,more gentle towards the feelings of others. No matter what others practice.
On the other hand, I am sure if someone came out as a child molestor, murderer or rapist on this website, they would get slammed as much or worse that anything thrown at a homosexual.

The Bible states homosexuality as sinful. But the true Christians just stand by the Bible with out needing to attack anyone. And these people WILL be for harsh punishments for child molesters, murderers, rapists, etc. But most don't want homosexuals to be punished. They just don't condone their lifestyle.
I think you are refering to the hypocrite "Christians" who, like the pharasee's of the New Testament, feel a great need to attack others to make themselves feel superior.
But there are hypocrites like this in every community. Starlets going to PETA functions with leather purses. The liberal who shouts for conservation while traveling from one place to another on his private jet. The cop who arrest a dozen people on a drug bust, & keeps a bit of the drugs for his own use.
Let's not attack a whole group just because of the hypocrites in the group.

The are not attacking merely defending, since it is the homosexuals that are attacking. The child molester, the rapiest and the murderer knows what they are doing is wrong, and they know it is a sin ( normally unless they are mentally ill)
But it is the homosexual that wishes to force thier perverse sexual desires onto society as an acceptable life style, teaching it in our schools, and trying to pass laws to protect thier sexual choices. So they in fact are the ones attacking the moral fiber of society. It is the christian who is defending the faith and the morality of society. Make the gays back off and admit thier lifestyle is a sin and stop trying to push for marriage and acceptance, and I am sure the Christians would not fight them so hard.

I wholly disagree with 100% of the previous answers.
What I think you did admirably was ask about "so called 'christians.'"
I'm sure as a gay guy you fight completely wrong (and illconcieved) stereotypes and generalizations. I can relate. As a Christian, people often think that I am a harsh, rabid, and bloodthirsty gay basher.
It's not the truth. I respect homosexuals as people. I am equally susceptible to sin as everyone else in this world. While I do think that homosexuality is a sin, I don't hate you.
I can disagree with your behavior, but I can still value you as a person. (Makes me think of the saying 'don't hate the player, hate the game').
'So called christians' are ignorant. They have forgotten what it is to be forgiven themselves and they attack the easiest and most accessible cultural issue. Which a lot of times is homosexuality.
I apologize for these people. I'm sorry. That isn't Christian behavior. It isn't.

There are passages in the bible which human beings use to justify or rationalize just about any kind of wickedness under the sun. Sad, but true. Matthew 19:12 can be used to counter the quotes thrown your way. The message that those Christians should be listening to is summed up by Bishop John Shelby Spong: "By this shall people know that you are my disciples, that you love one another. If you say that you love God and hate your neighbor, you are a liar. Love your neighbor as yourself. Welcome the stranger, care for the weak, embrace the outcast. Jesus is even made to state his purpose in the Fourth Gospel as "I have come that they might have life and have it more abundantly." These are some of the biblical texts that have cumulative power, that build a consensus and that counter the limited, mean-spirited prejudices that we human beings have used so often in the name of religion to violate the humanity of another child of God."
Good luck!

You live in tunnel vision. Christians DO speak out against those other things, heatedly - its just the subject of homosexuality hits home for you and thats all you notice, that end of it and not the other.
HOWEVER - while I do not and will not condone homosexuality as normal behavior, nor do I condone heterosexual sins like adultery and so forth (just as bad as homosexuality by the way), I do not go out of my way to harass gay people.
I DO HOWEVER feel it is EVERY Christian's place to prevent practicing gays (or practicing wife cheaters, etc) from pastoring a church and other spiritual leadership positions because it flies in the face of the living God.
Sinners sin - and we can not force sinners to be saved and should not attempt to force them. We can and must make sure they know the wages of sin and the fate that awaits them - but that does not mean hunting you down like an animal and screaming in your faces.
Not all Christians treat it the same way - but this is t he Biblical way.
LET ME ADD - neither do I condone that one so called Christian Church (and is not) which hounds funerals of deceased gay soldiers that died in the line of duty for their country. When a "so called" Christian goes to these funerals with signs and screaming their mindless banter - they are bringing damnation on themselves on the day of judgment. These select type of so called Christians do more harm to the Kingdom of God by driving gay people and their families further away.
Thankfully they do NOT represent the True Church of Jesus.

Judgemental Christians attack everyone, including other Christians who don't have the same philosophy on everything. Even though these type of people attack homosexuals a lot, gays aren't the only ones targeted.

Part of the problems stems from the fact that you slam us in the face with who you sleep with.. We don`t care and wouldn`t care if you didn`t tell us. You very conveniently ask us why we care but in the next breath are demanding your GAY rights. .
My question to you is:
Why does what you do in bed have any bearing on anything else in life besides sex.. Why does your sexual preference give you any rights? Does that mean the the folks who are into threesome`s get threesome rights? Or how about those people in bondage, Do they get bondage rights. I mean get real. No one cares what you do IN your bedroom. But why don`t you leave it in the bedroom?
And as for Murder`s and rapists, we are on them too, We have executions here in Texas.. But they are criminals. Nothing to do with you all in any way.. Two whole different worlds.
It is an abomination in Gods eye.

Please don't lump all Christians together because of some you have encountered. We are called to be an example. That means to be people of integrity. To aim for purity. We are to keep the commandmants, to walk in His ways and to fear Him(Holy respect) I think (some )Christians are trying to water down the truth. The truth is It's Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. Our world is dishonoring God more and more with lifestyles that are not right, more pervertion and violence.Thank God for His mercy and grace. He loves all homosexuals, rapists, murders etc.He gives us opportunity to come to Him and surrender all.
