do you have to continue to take a prenatal vitamin or will a multi work if you are nursing a baby?. Since I have been so sick with this pregnancy, I have only been able to take 2 flintstones a day. I figured that once the baby is here, I wont get sick anymore and I can take a "Real" vitamin

Its very import and for the development for your baby and the health of yourself.most of the contents in the vitamin are designed specifically for pregnant women. The most important content is Folic acid. This helps develop the baby's brain and spin and can prevent spinal bifita. Its recommended to take prenatal vitamins as well as 1 extra mg of folics acid. Take a look at this site it may give you more info. Congrats on the pregnancy.

I would talk to your doctor and work out a plan with them. With my first two pregnancies I could not take ANYTHING...I was so sick my entire pregnancy and the prenatal pill and other high iron vitamins just made me sicker.
My babies were all healthy and the first two were 8 pounds and higher. I found other ways to get the nutrients without the prenatal pill.
When I was nursing with all my children my doctor put me on another pill. I can not for the life of me remember what it was but I know for sure it was a different vitamin and definitely NOT the prenatal pill!

Good luck!

You should take your prenatal vitamins as you may not really be taking enough nutrients in your daily diet. These will supplement your needs and that for the growth of the baby. Tell yourself, "I'm doing it for my baby" and you'll be able to swallow them and definitely go through the pregnancy despite how you feel.

Why haven't you been able to take the prenatals? Are they making you sick? I always take mine before I go to bed, because they make me feel sick. You could always talk to your dr too and he could give you a different kind.
You do need to take them, because they contain the nutrients that you need to nurse. Your body needs different amounts of certain vitamins and minerals while you are nursing. It is very important to get all the proper nutrition. If your body is feeling stressed it can effect your milk supply.
Good luck to you.

If the vitamins are making you sick, try and eat healthy meals and you will be fine. Vitamins from foods are preferred over vitamins in bottles, however you don't want to be lacking in vitamins especially folic acid. Ask your doctor what to do.

The prenatal are more important for the kids development. Taking them once you nurse is less important.

Kid coul have some deficency problems if you dont take them and arent eating properly. And there is the possibility of the kid leeching the calcium out of your body.

My doctor told me that if I couldn't handle prenatals, that a multi is fine. Just be sure you're getting enough calcium and folic acid.
