its a 12G barbell thats 5/8 of an inch long and has relatively small balls on the ends (that are pretty much impossible to take off...believe me, ive tried to switch the metal barbell for acrylic but i cant get it off)

I have a Prince Albert piercing with a 6ga ring and the only time I have ever set off a metal detector was during secondary screening. I explained to the screener that I have a body piercing and he moved on. I fly 10-20 round trips a year.

Yes. I know cause I've got some piercings. The first one I got was my eyebrow, and it did set off the hand held detectors.

Hmm... I'd have to say no on that. I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. But even if it did set the detector off, you can easily explain it's your piercing.
