so my rabbit just died and my male pekingnese is attatched to my mom and now i have no one. and i think shes starting to see that. well, i think she might give in to getting me a dachshund puppy! :] i just love this breed and read ALL about them as i possibly can. (im 16) does anyone have any personal experiences with this breed, and can give me some tips on them? When we pick one out, I want a female dapple.

any puppy training tips would be so helpful and just any advice on training, dachshunds and personal experiences would be so helpful! thanks.

if you need any more info just tell me and i'll add what you need and you can check back.

I have 2 mini doxies from the Dachshund Rescue of North America (www.drna.org). My first, Rocky, had to be put down 2 years ago today with cushings. Most important things I can tell you that no one has mentioned already. 1. Dachshunds want to dominate. Be sure you are the boss and the doxie knows it. I was told by 1st doxie's breeder to take or move food dish. If they growl, pick it up until the dog settles. Then give it back. Do this often. Dachshund pick up and chew lots of things they shouldn't and you need to be able to take things away. Also, start puppy training as soon as possible and stick with it. It will help you establish and keep your rightful place as the boss. 2. Buy stock in a chew toy company. Once you have a dachshund, you will understand! 3. Have a blast. Doxie's have so much personality and they are smart enough to know it. You will receive hours of enjoyment watching them do anything and everything.

I had a female dapple. Her color was bores hair. They are very loving and playful. They are hard to housebreak. They do have back problems. I would recommend a short hair mini.

If you want a dog that is hearty and loving and small I would suggest a boston terrier. I have 3 of them and I love them to death. They think they are big dogs and they have few health problems. They are about the same when it comes to housebreaking.

Be careful if you get a dapple because they do have eye problems and ear problems, blindness and deafness. Never try to breed a dapple with a dapple it is very bad.

I have a female and male miniature dachshunds. They are so cute and loving. They are like our children. They sleep with us and they follow us around the house. They are hard to house train, esp. the male. But you need to get them into a routine and will help out alot. I got my female, Daisy, when she was 5 wks. old. At a year 1/2 old she weights 9 lbs. My male , Rhino, is 13 lbs and is 1 yr old. He is kind "healthy". Good luck I hope you a dog you love as much as we love ours.

Thats great.
I have a male and female dachshund too. They are just adorable.
When i got them i did some reserch.I heard that they could land up getting some eye disorders when they are too old.The change of fracturing their backbones also exists.

So dont let them jump to and from very gret heights.

check out my website about my dogs

please email me also.

hope i was of some use to you.

My best freind is a breeder and I love her dogs. We had dachsunds when I was growing up.
They are great dogs.
Keep them trim and don't let them get fat it is hard on their back.
Do not let the jump off things as that is hard on the back.
They are great dogs and we had lots of fun with ours.
