Typically, eight weeks is about right; by then they should be eating solid food and therefore weanable.

They have to be at least weaned, which is about 6 weeks old. Ideally they should be at least 8 weeks old, or 12 if possible, so that they can complete normal socialization. Early separation tends to produce unusually skittish or 'clingy' cats. Younger kittens are also more likely to get sick from the stress of moving to a new home.

The kittens must be able to eat hard food *and* use a litter box (even if you keep them outdoors). Usually, this age is around six weeks. Be careful of people who want small/young kittens; they may want them for snake food.

People usually say 6 weeks, but you can give them away as soon as 4 weeks. You just got to start taking them away from their mother more often, so their used to it. And also, start feeding them soft food, so their used to it by the time you give them away.

I raised over 50 infant kittens for me local animal shelter. I find that 12 weeks(3months) seems a perfect time to let them go to new homes!!!

at about six weeks old, if they are taken from mom before they are weenied from her teet, they may display suckling habbits for the rest of thier lives.that can be pretty nasty, i adopted a female cat from a shelter that wasn't weined and she displays this same thing.

When they can walk, drink, and eat food on their on they are ready to go. And can use the litter box too. That makes a good give away speech when your ready to give them away : "You can say they are litter box trained"!
