same reason others that have church on Saturday night go,
They may work on sunday, and yes they may want to sleep in or have a day to do something with the family.
And since the main thing is going, why not.

no i'm not lazy to get up Sunday morning...I've been going to Saturday evening mass for many years and it's just something that I am accustomed to. If for some reason I cannot make the Saturday evening mass, then I have no problem getting up and going on Sunday evening. Mass is Mass no matter what day and time you attend. :)

It is acceptable to attend the 5:00 pm (or whatever time) vigil Mass on Saturdays for Sunday obligation. Some do because of work schedules, etc. Hospital workers, those who work in retail and the stores are open on Sunday mornings, etc. There are various reasons why some attend on Saturday vigil Mass. It is acceptable in some dioceses and parishes as fulfillment of the Sunday obligation. Myself, I always prefer Sunday morning Mass.

In the Jewish tradition, the Sabbath starts at sundown on Friday and ends at sundown on Saturday.
Using this same tradition, the Christian Lord's Day, Sunday, actually starts at sundown on Saturday and ends at sundown on Sunday.
With this option, yes, some Catholics celebrate Mass on Saturday evening and can lazily sleep in on Sunday.
Also the most important Catholic Mass of the year, the Easter Vigil Mass starts at sundown on Holy Saturday, the night before Easter.
With love in Christ.

I think it is for 2 reasons: 1) because a lot of families have a big Sunday dinner/get-together so they need time to prepare, travel, cook, etc. The second reason is to keep them out of the bars on Saturday night! They did so well during the week they don't want to be tempted to blow it the night before they go to church.

It had to do with Vatican 2,I believe in 1969.No it is not about being lazy on Sunday morning.I cannot highlight on this.Prior to this date mass was always on Sunday. If one went to Catholic school you went every morning of the week. Before that time in order to recieve Holy Communion you had to fast an hour or two before.Every Friday was a day of eating fish.

please let me shoot you. the true day to celebrate any christian service is saturday "god created the world in 6 days and on the 7th day he rested". now look at a calendar and tell me which is the seventh day of the week. catholics have been bastardizing things since the church was formed. popes would sell forgiveness of "venial sins" christ told a rich man to sell what he has and follow him yet the vatican is filled with priceless art, jewels and other antiquities the reformist Martin Luther, founder of the lutheran church used to go into catholic churches and take the gold sell it and give it to the poor. robin hood would be proud. incidentally i was born catholic. then started going to the united church of christ. now disillusioned with so many things im beginning to think the native american had it right

Personally it's because Sunday morning is the only morning I have to sleep in. Besides there's no law that says you have to attend mass on Sunday.

Saturday night meets your Sunday obligation....same way any vigil service does (think Christmas Eve). I believe that this actually comes from our Jewish brothers and sisters----look back at Genesis----Evening came and Morning followed, the first day. Days begin at Sundown.......So, Saturday evening is actually part of Sunday.

Many churches have alternate services. I once went to a church that had three sunday services, a thursday night, and a saturday night service.
