oh wait, I forgot the proof ... go ask your mom to explain beyond reasonable doubt to you.

Organ donation -- while still alive (like a kidney, part of a lung, bone marrow, etc). To go through all that pain, short term suffering, expense (sometimes), and lifestyle change to help someone else to me is about as selfless an act as you can get.
Although there are some out there that do this for money, I would also say surrogate moms. To carry someone else's child in your own body then giving it to them is pretty selfless.

I think for my answer I will say being a surrogate mother. My best friend, who is a remarkable lady, lost her only son when he was 8 months old. He would be about 16 now had he survived. Anyhow, she is physically unable to have another child or even carry one in her womb. So yeah, giving of your body to give life and love to someone who can not do it themselves would truly be selfless.

I remember going through some 'post traumatic' mothering doubts when I had my first son. Bad C-section story. Went through some psychological 'woe is me' moments because I couldnt give birth naturally. Was I 'really' a mother. Today I laugh at that. The night it all became clear-----
The night my little boy was so sick with the flu that he was puking in his sleep. I changed his bed so many times. Finally I set him up on the couch and slept on the living room floor beside him.
That night I knew without any doubt---it is not 'having' a baby that makes you a mom, it really is all about love. That isnt being heroic, that is 'just' being a mom.

Yes, I believe that there is a such thing. I feel a selfless act means when someone does something for others with the sole intentions of benefiting those in need as supposed to how it makes themselves feel. Yes it does feel good to do good things, but that should not be the primary purpose.

I was going to say ' I win "....with my answer of letting a wasp ( not a bee ) sting you....this is because letting a bee sting you would result in the death of that bee, thereby negating the selflessness of the act, but a wasp can sting you and live.....
but, then I read Mellisa's answer........letting someone go whom you love........
she wins

What could be more selfless than giving your life for another, like Jesus did for you?

Being a mommy. To be a GOOD mommy, at least. You have to give up spending so much money on yourself and spend it on a kid. You have to give up being a size 2 (unless you're really lucky). You have to give up going out all the time. You can't drink while you're pregnant. Number one reason: labor hurts.

Giving your life to save someone elses...Look at the firefighter of 9-11. And there was security officer's in the building that didn't leave the post to save others.

Donating an organ...You don't get paid to do this, and it puts yourself at risk. I suppose to be totally selfless it would have to be an anonymous donation.
