If you love steak (especially nice tender steak) it is worth it to have Kobe beef at least once. Kobe beef comes from Wagyu cattle, they are not massaged or put in small boxes! The cattle are just naturally tender and high in marbling. You can get American Kobe, which is Wagyu cattle raised in the United States. You can also try to find a Wagyu breeder and buy a steer from them.

My advice is that you make sure the cook knows what they are doing whether you cook it at home or get it in a restaurant. I've never had a bad experience, but I have heard of others having a bad experience.

Having lived in Japan for 2 years I can tell you that Kobe Beef is a beautifully tender and tasty piece of meat. It is something that all meat lovers should experience at least once, but I wouldn't spend that kind of money very often when there are many very good cuts of American beef that are nearly as good.

It's not worth the suffering the steer go through. Better eat veal or try grassfed cattle beef.

They lock up the poor animals in little cages, as to atrophiate muscles (they remain undeveloped), thus making the meat tender. And they force feed them grains soaked in sake!! This is so inhuman!

Kobe beef tastes amazing. It is a japanese technique in wich they masage all the mussles on the cow to make the meat tender and it works!
