Inner fire is a tantrahyana and originated in Tibet.

It talks allot about the key to becoming an enlightened being is to understand emptiness. Or lack of inherent existence. I have started to study the heart sutra which goes into great detail about emptiness, and have gained knowledge on the topic, however knowledge is nothing without experience..
I have experienced somethings, but wanted to ensure I was heading in the right direction, if indeed there is one to head in.
Many thanks for your kind responses.

I perhaps should have been a little more precise in my question.

Inner fire meditation is one type of meditation that I am looking into, and Meditation on emptiness is another.

I may be mistaken by my undersatndiong of meditating on emptiness, hence the question.

My understanding is that you clear your mind of as many distractions as possible, which is true of any meditation. Otherwise you can't focus on that which you are trying to mediate. Emptiness meditation is to help you realise the true naturte of all form.

Form is empty, or in other words Form is empty of inherent existence. This is meditating on emptiness. And this is what I woudl like to talk about.

Many thanks to all that have answered so far.

I've never heard of Innerfire (is that like the Tibetan Monks practice of Tum-Mo ?). I have meditated on emptiness, specifcally the Prajnaparamita (Heart) Sutra's: "Emptiness is Form, Form is Emptiness", It is a pretty tough nut for me to crack, and fully comprehend. Er wait, there is no me...

No, The terms are contradictory - how can you meditate on emptiness and innerfire at the same time?

Do you know the purpose of your meditation?

Meditating on emptiness is impossible - and anyone who claims this is possible is bogus. Your mind is always active and therefore to try to point it towards nothing is really asking for disaster. The Bhagavad-Gita mentions that the mind is extremely fickle and can get drawn towards a multitude of thoughts all at the same time. The mind needs something to think about - it cannot think about nothing.

If you have seen any buddhist meditation sessions, then you will note that a lot of them simply fall asleep and in some temples, they have a supervisor who goes around beating those who fall asleep - so much for meditating on emptiness.

The Bhagavad-Gita teaches us that God is within each one of us as the supersoul and he is the one who should be the object of our meditation - He is the innerfire.

Everyone feels emotion once in a while ..All day long we are constantly thinking..What you put into your body effects your chemical balance ..so if your feeling like crap all the time physically you will feel bad mentally..Meditation depends entirely on balance..You must be totally quiet close all things off around you ..and be able to hear your own heartbeat..after that it depends where you wanna go....your chant or your thought image will take you there..However god is always watching and listening your call....

Yeah, it is the old put your mind and reasoning abilities away and blindly receive anything that comes. Basically you dismiss your mind from objective reality and let your imagination run to create
"your own" reality or altered state according to a set esoteric path prescribed by tons of new age books and gurus who say all kinds of arcane things. So choose your book/guru wisely (oxymoron) because they all say different things. Throw critical thinking out the window, and you are ready to enter the path of "your own" worst nightmare. Watch out for the Goblins. Well, in a nutshell, all you are doing is opening up yourself to the spirit world. All you are doing! Yeah, all you are doing! You open yourself up to the spirit world and you won't be able to handle, much less control what comes in. How's that for a nightmare in broad daylight and in every waking moment!
