I like to fast for many reasons. Some of the best include:

A really quiet feeling in your body...like peaceful.

Not worrying about preparing my food, or what my next meal will be.

Better ability to focus, for some reason.

"Lighter" feeling after a 1-2 days (uh, you know "lighter")

Slight weight loss (but noticable).

The key is to drink a gallon, yes a gallon, of distilled water a day. You can add lemon if you want, but no sugar. You also should not take a multi, it can upset the natural fasting mechanism and actually make you sick. And stick to veggies the day after a long (2+ day) fast. If you do it all the time combined with lots of excercise thats called anorexia.

I ussually do just 2 days. Life is too hectic to do so more often (you get cleansing "crisis's from time to time).

Fasting for a few days on water or 100% juice has a lot of HEALTH benefits, mainly in the form of cleansing your body of the preservatives or toxins in most of the food we eat. I do a weekend fast once a month and always feel much more alive, healthy, and generally better after each fast.

However, fasting for WEIGHT LOSS purposes is ineffective, and likely dangerous. Here's why: first off, no weekend fast will allow you to see noticeable weight loss, so you'd have to deprive your body of food for a lot longer. This causes problems in that your body can't know that you're purposely depriving yourself of food, so it slows your metabolism b/c it thinks you're starving. So when you inevitably start eating again, your metabolism won't process that food as fast, and you'll gain back all the weight you lost, plus more.

Also, the weight you will lose on a fast is primarily water weight, not fat. Your body losing water like this can cause problems over time, including dehydration and lack of red blood cells.

And if you're fasting for a long time, you're very likely to give into a craving and overeat.

Hope I helped!

Fasting is just a more comfortable way of saying "starving".

Benefits: Getting skinnier, usually only losing water weight though.

Cons: You get hungry and can't think straight. When you do eat your body will gain back all of the weight and trigger a biological reaction to force your body to store more energy (fat) in case you start to starve again. Because of all of the water you've lost your body also can't use things like the liver and kindey's properly so they sometimes get damaged during a long fast. Not over day of fasting mind you. Give it a week though and things start to show.

Listen, your body doesn't know the difference between fasting and starving. So if you are going to fast, make sure you're drinking lots of water and do not take any type of pill/vitamin/herbal suppliment. They are incredibly hard on the body.

If you're just looking to clean your body out. Regular excercise (daily walk, bike, jump rope, have sex, whatever), up the intake of fruit, vegs and nuts. Cut back on sugars, salts and meat. Drink lots of water. In three months you should be cleaned out and have naturally lost weight that shouldn't come back because of behavior modification rather than a weekend fix.

Some fad diets have an underlying priciple (such as eliminating carbohydrates) while others are mainly starvation. This particular diet just seems weird.

The Promise: In 2 1/2 months you should lose 52 pounds...

The Rules:

You must drink eight 8oz. glasses of water daily (64 oz. total per day).
At any meal you may eat until you are full.
You must eat the minimum listed at each meal. (yep, this diet list the minimum you should eat).
You cannot eliminate anything from the diet. Especially the bacon at breakfast and the salads. You must eat the bacon and salads. These combinations of food burn the fat, omitting one part of the combination will cause the whole thing not to work.
The grapefruit or fruit juice is important because it acts as a catalyst that starts the burning process. Don't add or reduce the amount of grapefruit or juice.
Cut down on coffee, it affects the insulin balance that hinders the burning process. Try to limit to 1 cup at meal time.
Don't eat between meals. If you eat the suggested foods you will not get hungry.
You can fry food in butter and use butter generously on vegetables.
Do not eat desserts, breads, and white vegetables or sweet potatoes.
You may double or triple helpings of meat, salad or vegetables.
Eat until you are stuffed. The more you eat the more weight you will lose.
Stay on the diet 12 days, then stop the diet for 2 days and repeat.
Diet Plan:
Breakfast:

Either 1/2 grapefruit OR 8 oz. juice (unsweetened)
2 eggs any style
2 slices of bacon
Lunch:

Either 1/2 grapefruit OR 8 oz. juice (unsweetened)
Salad with any dressing
Meat any style and any amount.
Dinner:

Either 1/2 grapefruit OR 8 oz. juice (unsweetened)
Salad with any dressing OR a red or green vegetable cooked in butter or spices.
Meat or even Fish any style cooked any way.
Coffee or Tea (1 cup)
Bedtime Snack:

8oz. glass of tomato juice or 8 oz cup of skim milk.

Most people fast for religious purposes not for weight loss, or they do it as a body cleansing, if you want to fast to lose weight just be aware of a couple of things..... when you fast your body thinks your starving so it slows down your metabolic rate and saves as much to your fat cells as possible to keep from starving. Also if you are doing it to long, your body still thinking that you are starving will begin digesting your internal organs instead of the fat. Not a good idea! Good to ask first though!

I have heard (from an Indian) that fasting for 36 hours is just long enough for the body to clean itself out completely. I know hindus do this often.
