They are a very good way to get an ear infection. As you rub the inside of the ear canal, you tend to scratch the soft skin and it can often become infected. If you are getting infections and are using q-tips, this is probably the reason. They sell ear wash kits at the drug store that do a good job.

BAD BAD BAD!!! While they do a good job of getting the majority of the ear wax out they still leave some of the wax and then the wax gets pushed up against your eardrum and could cause ear infections.

Outer Ear...Good, Inside the Ear...Bad. Use drops for the inner parts of the ear.

They're OK for cleaning the outer ear, but not for the inside. It's not just the idea of puncturing your ear drum (which happens, but it's rare), but you're pushing wax into your ear rather than getting it out. That can cause all kinds of problems.

Don't never, ever use any kind of cotton swab in your ear canals, if you have a buildup of wax that impairs your hearing, see a ear, nose and throat specialist to have it removed. there are kits with drops and an irrigator on the market, these are preferable to digging wax out with a swab. your ears are normally self cleaning, unless you have some condition that is producing excess wax, you shouldn't need to clean the canals.

And don't try to treat an earache with swabs, olive oil, or peroxide, take it from me, being deaf is no fun.

I have a box of swabs in front of me right now, and they're labelled "Not for use in the ear canal" 'nuff said.

Any doctor will tell you not to stick it in your ear. But like the first person who answered, I stick them in my ears all the time and have been since I was about 10 years old - it's the only way to get the wax out. I haven't punctured an eardrum yet.

It depends on how you use it. Don't stick it all the way in your ear. You can cause damage. The best way to clean your ears is with water when you shower.

Bad, you should put nothing like that in your ears.

if you are not inserting them It the hole in your ear, yes. if you do, you shove wax into your ear, and it builds up, layer by layer. then when you go to the doctor, they take tweezers and grab each individual layer of wax and pull it out. it hurts like #&%@. the pain is enough to make the pope swear up one side and down the other.
