Probably the same reason any non WASP continue to get followed when too many are in a car (especially males); followed through high end expensive stores; and get looked over for various opportunities. Because there is an unspoken assumption aka prejudice of things/people not understood. Since media usually puts anyone non WASP in a negative light regardless of reality--they are assuming that s/he is "one of the bad ones". Or must know one.

If you are wearing a headdress then that is why. It is not common here. If you do not wear one maybe it is because you look weird. I doubt if you are not wearing traditional garb many non-muslims can just tell by looking at you for being muslim.

People are now becoming conditioned to the thinking that all muslims are bad people which is entirely untrue. So there is unjust discrimination.
