no he needs to use super hold hair spray. or a really strong gel
and then put you hand on one side of it to hold it up and blow dry the other side then trade hands and do the same thing on the other side. keep spraying it with hair spray and blow drying it until it is standing up nice and it is stiff
vaseline is just going to make it limp and flop over so would hair wax. you need to make it hard to keep it standing up.
i am a hairstylist. i know.

If he uses Vaseline it wont work too well and it will be hard to get out. Vaseline doesn't really harden and wont hold the shape he wants. A hair glue would work much better, or a friend of mine uses wood glue, it's not as thick and washes out easier. Also, it will harden to the shape he wants.

Vaseline wont hurt his hair. It will make it really soft and might take a little while to wash out.
He's better off using hair wax, its sold almost everywhere. If he cant find it where he regularly shops then he can go to a beauty supply store.

It will take FOREVER to wash out, and it will make his face look greasy, because it will eventually go onto his forehead!
