First, thank you for giving this guy a home. Since you recently got him and just had him "fixed" I would hope things will settle down and he will stop this behavior. I suggest a strong "no" when he does this to correct him just as you wouild any other negative behavior. I had a male sheltie I rescued that was doing that but after a few weeks following neutering, he stopped. Maybe your dog will stop too with time and consistent correction.
Sounds like he is needing some good quality food for nourishment. Given routine feedings with high quality foods that contain vitamins and mineral, the will gain up to his ideal weight in a few weeks. And, a good vet check up is always the first thing to do.
Be patient with your new family member. I think he will come around in time. Thank you again for giving him a chance at a good life. God bless.

I'm a little surprised at the behavior too. But he might calm down considerably once he gets fed up: There could be a chemical imbalance caused by malnutrition involved. Or- are you sure they got everything when the dog was neutered? Sometimes the animal's (not just dog's) testicles don't migrate to where they belong and may still be in the dog's body generating all those male hormones.
Let a vet take a look at him to make sure he's not ill.
Good luck!

Humping is NOT a sexual thing. It is a dominace thing. Dogs will hump people, objects or other dogs to show dominace over the thing they are humping. It is a way for your dog to say "I'm Boss". If the humping is only on furniture or other animals it is ok and let your dog work things out. If your dog is humping people than it is a serious issue. If you let the behavior continue it will lead to more serious problems.

My mom is a vet, and I show dogs in 4-H, I hope this advice will help. Many dogs have a humping problem, it's just a bad habbit like any other. Everytime you catch him "legging" something, say "No!" very loudy and forcfully. If this doesn't work, squirt him with some water or lemon juice everytime he does it.
With the overweight problem, exercise and no tablescraps is the key! I hope I can be some help! Good Luck.

Umm, fixed male dogs can still be horndogs!! My black lab still is, just not quite so bad as he was before lol. He's probably nervous and not adjusted yet. Give him time to feel at home and don't worry about it. But get him to the vet anyway -- that's a good idea for any newly adopted animal.

i have the same problem with my male beagle dog. he 2 yrs old now and was fixed when i got him at 6 weeks old. he has been humping ever since . i have 2 female dogs also . i asked the vet and they told me that he is just marking his teritory. trying to show that he is dominat and that he is king of the household. you could try getting him a stuffed animal and then that would keep him from humping other stuff. good luck

Glad he's going to a vet. That is always the first line of defense. As for his humping, that can be dominance or sexual. They hump to show they are dominate. Neutered males can and do still have sex, they just can't make puppies any more. Therefore............he may be horny. My dog was spayed as a pup. When he was nine years old I got a female that wasn't spayed............... yet. (she was soon thereafter) Before she was spayed they went at it like rabbits.

Some dogs do that because they were neutered when those bad behaviours had already started so they just keep on doing that because its something they learned. Sometimes they also do it as to say he is the leader of the pack, I had a rottweiler female dog who used to hump my male scottish terrier so its just a matter of who is the leader and stronger.

He ought to probably were bitten by employing a snake or stung by employing an insect . Have a strong go searching his mouth and lips to analyze for puncture wounds or a bee or wasp sting. that is achievable that an animal ought to have entered your backyard and has attacked him. If he were bitten or stung then he must be drooling excessively and shaking uncontrollably. that is hard to inform precisely yet i'm efficient your Vet will provide him an intensive going over once you spot him contained in the morning. contained in the intervening time you promises him some Rescue clinical care (Dr. Bach's Flower clinical care) for the wonder. it also ought to help to calm him. i'm hoping you locate out the reason instantly and that i want him properly.

The humping is not a sexual behavior it is dominance. Do not let him do it. He is telling you that he is the alfa male and you are beneath him in the pack. You must not be mean but you must establish yourself as boss of the pack. Do not feed him until you feed yourself. Do not let him in the door(or out) until you have gone.do not let him sleep on the bed.Taking him to an obedience class is best.
