Cross was not found in the Bible until after Constantine. Around the year 325. The earlier copies of the Bible, you know what I mean, the codexes, scrolls etc, did not have the cross as Jesus' implement of death. It was either a tree, or a pole.

It was not a torture tool in their beliefs.

It was a means of execution used by the Romans, and a particularly nasty one. The person who was crucified died of either asphyxiation or suffocation.

The cross wasn't the first symbol used by Christians. The first symbol was probably the fish.

The cross was adopted as a symbol for the amount of suffering Jesus had to endure, in order to bring salvation to souls. Or so the tradition goes.

The cross represents two major key points for Christians. The one with Him on it is a symbol of how He suffered and died for all man kind, but not all man kind will accept Him. Secondly, the empty cross is a symbol that reminds us that He rose from the grave and went to prepare a place for us, so when God the Father says "Son, it is time to receive Your bride", we too shall be resurrected up to be with Him.

It is not a sign of ANYTHING to do with Christ. The early apostate Christians took it up as a symbol that those who would not totally give up their own religions when they were trying to convert everyone by force used in their own worship. It is a pagan fertility symbol. Egyptians and many other ancient cultures used this. Christ died upon a stake (or a tree as ancient translations will tell you), not a cross.

The cross was used to kill thieves and common criminals. This is why it was such a mocking way to kill the Savior of the World. The people who killed Christ were making a mockery of Christ and all he stands for. This is why he was crucified with thieves. We use the cross as a symbol of our faith because we believe that Jesus died FOR OUR SINS. AND ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS ACCEPT THAT AND WE ARE MADE AS WHITE AS SNOW! Praise the LORD! If you aren't already a Christian you should give it a try. GOD BLESS you in your pursuit of faith!

Because Jesus was crucified on the cross. And even though it's a sin, Christians just love idols. I always found it a little gross.

no idea. the cross was used to kill thousands. it was simply a roman way of killing. the important thing was the garden of gethsemane. (where Christ paid for our sins.) when he died on the cross, he died. he conquered death after he rescued all the good people from hell. "I have not yet ascended to my Father."
