I'm not sure what style you're going for, but I have curly hair and I use a gel made by Sebastian Professional called Wet -- it works very well for styling and controlling my hair, but not making it hard or crunchy. I usually just scrunch it into my hair when it's wet...but again, I'm not sure if it works well for the style you're going for. Good luck!

I use VO5 Play it Again reworkable putty. You can get it at Wal-mart. It's pretty good. I also like Bedhead manipulator molding wax. You might try a "Flexible Hold" hairspray I think finess has one and I'm sure there are other's out there as well.

I would recommend that you use a molding paste, there are lots of different brands, redken and fudge are my personal favorites
