When I bred Cockatiels, I removed the babies 2 days after the last egg hatched. There is commercial formula available at most pet supply stores. You mix this with warm water, and using a feeding syringe, you feed until the crop is full, Gently coax them to open their beaks using the tip of the syringe. Make sure you can see food filling their crops; it is possible if done wrong, to send the food straight into their lungs. This is ALWAYS fatal. You'll be able to see the crop filling with the food. Do not over fill. Make sure you wipe any food off their faces and beaks, otherwise it will harden and be painful to remove. Make sure you wash the syringe well, as leaving bits of formula inside the syringe can cause a yeast infection in their crops that can become systemic and cause death. Babies need to be kept warm! A fish tank, set on top of a heating pad covered with a towel and set on low, works well. I would put the entire clutch of babies in a small margerine tub lined with paper towel inside the tank, This way they are close to each other, and stay nice and cozy! Cover the entire tank with a towel. Do not knock on the tank, or startle them. They will need to be fed every 2 hours, around the clock for the first couple of days. You'll know when they are hungry; they make quite a racket!! Talk quietly to them while you hold and feed them; this will get them used to you and they will bond more readily with you. Also, try to find a 'Teil breeder in your area to help you with your first clutch. Good Luck!!

Monica E has excellent pointers. The only thing I'd do differently if you've never hand fed before is instead of a syringe, use a plastic 1/8 of a spoon measuring spoon or a metal spoon with the edges curled up. It prevents most babies from accidental choking on their food and you from forcing it into their lungs.

Hand feeding formula is found in most pet stores. There's several brands. The two I like include L&M Farms neonate and Hagan's Tropican. L&M farms has wonderful handfeeding instructions on the back of their container.

I'll include a page with handfeeding instructions. It should help you with stuff like temperature (NEVER heat the formula hotter than 108 F!), how often to feed and what the formula should look like.

Good luck!

You really need to go out and buy a manual on the care and feeding of cockatiels so you have the information that you need at hand. You really need to know what you are doing when you are caring for any kind of pet.
From Parrakeets of the World,pp354-56:
"The female lays four to seven eggs, usually four to five, that take twenty days to hatch. The male sits on them by day and the female at night. When the young are a good thirty days old they leave the nest but will continue to be fed by both parents for some time."
There are special baby cockatiel hand-feeding formulas available at pet stores, but you have to know what you are doing in order to feed them.Hand -feeding babies is not something for a beginner to do;you have to know the bird's anatomy very well and know where to place the pipette so the baby gets fed and doesn't choke. It's best to let the parents take care of them,so you really need to watch to make sure the parents are feeding them;the parents will also show them how to eat the cockatiel food that you serve the adults.

If the parents are not taking care of the babies youare going to need to get to a vetrinarian straight away;the vet or avian technician should be able to train you on proper feeding of babies

LISTEN TO MONICA! do NOT try to hand feed those babies until they have pin feathers all over their bodies, then take out the two biggest babies and hand feed them... let the smaller ones stay with the parents. Why do people always let their birds make babies THEN come in here looking for help????

Learn about your birds FIRST!!!

It's very easy to kill a baby bird with improper feeding, and there are lots of ways things can go wrong. Please find yourself an avian vet, or even a local bird breeder, who can demonstrate how to properly feed your babies. Until then, leave them with their parents. That's the only safe thing to do.
