because they are considered political refugees, not immigrants, which is a big difference they are fleeing from a communist nation to freedom, and they become LEGAL aliens through the proper channels, unlike the mexican illegal immigrants who come over for economic reasons and DON'T follow the proper legal procedures to be here.

The wet feet, dry feet policy (sometimes called the wet-foot, dry-foot Policy) is the name given to a consequence of the 1995 revision of the Cuban Adjustment Act of 1966 that says, essentially, that anyone who fled Cuba and got into the United States would be allowed to pursue residency a year later. After talks with the Cuban government, the Clinton administration came to an agreement with Cuba that it would stop admitting people found at sea. Since then, in what has become known as the "wet feet, dry feet" policy, a Cuban caught on the waters between the two nations, "wet feet", would summarily be sent home or to a third country. One who makes it to shore, "dry feet", gets a chance to remain in the United States, and later would qualify for U.S. citizenship.

Because they are coming from a communist country ruled by a dictator. Many don't make it to shore. The coast guard is always patrolling, and many of the man made boats just can't hold up and the people drown. The ones the coast guard catch are sent back to Cuba.
What makes them different than the illegals coming in from Mexico is that Mexico has a free government.

That's a damn good question, I think Florida should basically get together about 10k deputies,(legal residents of their state that meet the criteria for eligibility to be deputized), and start working with the cities IN florida to clean up their problems, too. At some point, the state governments are going to have to ACT on this one, and sending people back to cuba wouldn't be a 1/2 bad idea.
Cuba, like Mexico, can only benefit from reforms, get more of their people employed, have more lawful and open relations with the rest of the world, and stop trying to dump their excess population in the United States...

The old bugaboo about communism. This has been going on for 46 years. They are trying to punish Cuba but the people who live there are the ones who would but, fortunately, they are surviving quite well. In fact, you may be aware that Castro emptied his jails a few years ago and shipped them to Florida and the U.S. was obligated to take them.
Incidentally, many citizens from the country to your north as well as from most countries in the world enjoy reasonably priced vacations in the sun in Cuba.

The government has a policy of taking in asylum anyone who proven to be a refugee! The problem there is who gets to decide what constitutes a true test of the refugee status!

Because Cuba is a communist nation, I believe they are given asylum in this country by our government.
