Border Collie is the most intelligent dog. The Aussie (shepard, and cattle dog are close behind the BC

I don't think that there truly IS a smartest breed of canine. It really just depends on the dog. I have had a mixed mutt that was pretty smart, and now have a cocker that's dumber that a box of rocks (love him though), and a samoyed that's incredibly bright.

Although I love the ACD's I used to raise them the smartest dog is the Border Collie.

There is no way to really determine the smartest breed. There are a lot of them. Border Collies, German Shepherds, Rottweilers, lots of breeds are smart.

I've raised and trained many breeds, but the top ones for intelligence is: Poodle, Dobie, & German Shepherd. They're such great dogs!
I'm sure there are many others, including mixed breeds, that are super intelligent.

You may be right, though I've heard Border Collies are right up there as well. There must be something in the herding group that sets them apart.

Most dog breeders will tell you it's the border collie and poodle.

I agree with you. I also hear that beagles are just as smart.......on the other end of the spectrum, I hear Irish Setters are very dumb!
