If your kitty favors a spot than you should try putting some food there. They will not go to the bathroom where they eat. Also, try having your cat spaid or neutered if they are of age. Make sure they have a clean litterbox at all times. If you cat seems lethargic or their urine has a very very strong odor, you should see a vet and check for a UTI.

the first method is easy, clean the litter box. Cats have a more sensitive nose than we do. they don't want to smell their urine any more than we do. Wash it at least every 3rd time you dump the litter, and keep an odor neutralizer handy. There is a excellent litter called Tidy Cats Small Spaces litter, Now it's expensive, but you will never smell that ammonia smell in your litter box ever again. I have had cats my entire life and this is the only orderless litter I've ever seen in my life.

The second is not so easy. If your cat is over 6 months of age and has not been spayed or neutered they will begin marking territories. (spraying their urine where they consider it to be their territory) This behavior does not occur in cats whom have been fixed. Once fixed the cat won't be quite as territorial and won't feel the need to mark the territory as his/her own. and the spraying should stop.

1. take the cat to the vet. to rule out UTI.
2. if there is not ill, offer 2 litter boxes and make sure you clean them often (cats do not like to go in a dirty bathroom).
3. change the litter brand
4.if none of the above ideas work, maybe is behavioral like a complain for a change in the cat's environment (new baby at home, new cat, new roommate)

Make sure you keep mthe litter box very clean, put it someplace where he can get to it easily. Don't keep it near his food.

Check for any health problems like UTI, liver problems, etc.
