The federal government and over bearing people felt the need to control other peoples lives as much as possible. Prohibition lost but wow they tried to make it stick.

It makes no sense that you can be OLD enough to tote a gun and go to war but not old enough to crack open a beer.

It's the stupidest law on the books. Amazing that the government allows it - it makes them look like hypocrites.

Because under 21, most people are extremely immature. Since alcohol makes folks act immaturely, the under 21 crowd would act like 2 year olds.
Oh wait--- most of them do!

Here in Australia the llegal age is 18. I think it is because of the effects alcohol has on the mind. Most young people don't realise just how badly they can be effected so they drink themselves into a stupor. Sometimes they have to get their stomach pumped, sometimes they get in a car, drive it & crash it hurting (or killing) themselves & or others. Sometimes they just snap & turn violent. Sometimes they do stupid & risky things. Sometimes they have unprotected sex (as do a lot of adults though) resulting in unwanted pregnancys or sexually transmitted diseases. Sometimes young men rape. Sometimes young girls go crazy & turn malicious. A lot of crimes are committed whilest a person is under the influence of alcohol.
Personally, I think it is to protect the 'innocence' of minors as drinking alcohol can be thought of as an adult thing to do, what do most teenagers want? To be treated like an adult. It sux that so many idiots abuse alcohol because I think if supervised & moderated, it can be a part of every persons lifestyle. But in saying that, here in OZ, the native people, the Aborigines, seem to have a much stronger reaction to it & it tends to make them seem uncivil when truely, they are wonderful people with a weakened mind due to alcohol.
I know for two members of my family, alcohol has ruled their lives for many years. My dad has nobody to spend his life with & is impossible to be around & my brother is a drifter with no realistic ambitions in life.
The laws are there for good reason, I just wish they were followed a little more so younger people can get further in life without spending their time & money drinking with their mates because its the cool thing to do. Quite a debate you might have started here!!

Because they have found that the part of the brain that involves reasoning and understanding the consequences of ones actions dosn't fully develope untill 18 - 21 years old.

This is why I have grave concerns about the DAs charging minors as adults in crimes. I have seen cases where individuals as young as 10 have been charged as an adult in a crime.

For one thing Uncle Sam still thinks your a minor and probably thinks that at that age your brain halves have not learned to think together as a team (you know like that cause and effect syndrome)I believe that really doesn't happen until your about thirty-something. I don't think alcohol should be legal until your fifty!!!
