Seriously, have people just stopped caring about being able to communicate effectively?

There is too much slang these days. Personally, I can't stand the special spellings of words like "boi", "wot", "cuz". It's no wonder kids these days can't pass english in school. They see these words in Blogs and other internet sites and assume they are correct.

It's sad.

It's a myth that English speakers' grammar has gotten worse lately. Many of the features that people consider to be grammar mistakes have been around in English since before the rules against them were created. If people aren't following the rule, they're just doing the things that English speakers have been doing for hundreds of years. Examples of "mistakes" that predated the grammar rules are double negative, split infinitives, and preposition stranding, to name a few.

People haven't stopped caring, we're just in a transitional period. The world has shrunk and cultures are mingling, ergo a new "language" is emerging. I call it the "Blade Runner Syndrome"
Don't worry you can embrace it without losing your Classical English skills.
Actually it's kind of fun.

the 21st century is rived up with slang. Its the new and cool thing to do, and mixing numbers with letters is even cooler to some. So in other words, da lingo is go'n down da 2oilet. Trust me, by the end of 2026, the dictionaries are going to be filled with these shortcuts. Gr8.

lol.
