i don't think gambling is necessarily a sin, depending on your attitude and the way you go about it. If your taking say your and your wife's hard earned money and blowing it every week on gambling I'd say that's a sin. Also if you cheat, are greedy, and put money as your idol or God then I'd say that's sinning. But If your just going to the slot machine or playing poker for fun once or twice a year on a vacation I wouldn't see that as a sin. It's how you feel inside when your gambling. If it's filled with greed and hate and temptation i would say stop. But if your just there once in awhile for some entertainment(and it's not all your grocery money:) ) then It's not sinning.

Sin is simply missing the mark where God wants us. Gambling has ruined many people's lives because it can be addicting and many people loose their sense of logic always waiting for the big win. Many people gamble most of what they make in a week and don't have the money left to feed their family a descent meal or provide for their needs. Sure once in a great while someone may strike it rich, but at what expense to other poor souls who were duped into believing that they would be the ones? God wants us to be good stewards of our money, our time, and everything in our lives. Gambling is not an example of this.

Some people are unable to resist the lure of gambling. It is as addictive and damaging for them as drugs can be for others. It is a sin because it has the potential to damage everyone engaged in it with little or no potential benefits beyond being entertaining.

I gamble, but I also see many negative effects
in the whole process. I see greed, lust, hate, worship of evil, and misuse of power (just to name a few of the obvious failings people display while gambling.)

With so many negatives, making gambling a sin is a good way to make people cautious about its potential for destruction.

Anything that takes our focus from God is a sin. James 4:17 might give you a better understanding. Also, for many it is poor stewardship of the bounty that God provides. For some it becomes such an addiction that it is god for that person. Hopefully this helps you understand some of the reason gambling is looked upon as a sin - or at least a means to sin.

That's a good question. Even though the Boble does not say, "Thou shall not gamble," it does speak against the very nature of gambling. First of all, greed is one of the seven abominble sins. When people gamble, they only thing they are thinking of is "how can I get more?" That is greed. Secondly, the Bible says that he who doesn't work doesn't eat. We are to make our living by working hard for it, not just throwing money at chance hoping to get more than we ever put in. Thirdly, all money belongs to God anyway, and gambling that money is not being a good steward of it. Lastly, it is very addictive. The Bible says that we are to lay aside not only our sins, but weights that easily beset us. Any addiction sets us back, and is therefore not pleasing to God. Hope this helps.

I think any sin really comes down to the same thing: lack of faith in God. I think you start to sin with drinking, gambling, promiscuous sex, drugs, etc. when you start using these things as a substitute for God.

So I don't thinking gambling in and of itself is necessarily considered a sin. But some religions may see it that way, just because you run into the danger of straying from God. Plus, they might argue, if you have a relationship with God, you have no reason to gamble anyway.

Anything that is bad for you is a sin. Gambling can become an addiction and ruin you. Thats why in religions like Islam, Alcholic drinks are sinful too. Because they are bad for you, and if you become intoxicated you commit sins you don't mean to commit. But still you will be accountable for them.

Gambling means that you want more money out of what you already have. That's being greedy. And bible says you should give away all what you have instead of trying to make a fortune.
-- however, personally I don't find anything bad on gambling. So go enjoy

1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows

People who gamble are putting their faith in money and not in what God can do for them. That makes it a sin.Putting your faith in someone or something other than in God is breaking a commandment...Exodus 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me

And dont' kid yourself, because the church groups with their bingo games are too sinning. The have a reprobate mind because of it. Just because a church is doing something , don't make it right. Read your bible daily so you will know when your church is breaking God's laws.

I don't know if I would call it a sin, but it seems wrong to some people because in order for you to gain anything from gambling, someone else must lose, and there's no rhyme or reason to it. If you win, it's like stealing; if you lose, you're throwing money down a hole.
