My 8 month old dachshund was fine today. I took her outside for a potty break and when I brought her in she was very strange acting. She was shivering and lethargic. That is very much NOT like her. I called the vet and he said perhaps she was stung by a bee and she was traumatized. He said she might be running a fever too. He didnt seem too worried. Has this happened to any of you before??? Do I just let her sleep? She is sleeping now and not shivering like she was.

I am a retired animal chiropractor that still deals with a kennel of Dachsies. The vets evaluation seems to be in line with the symptoms. I would recommend that you go to a health food store and buy some rescue remedy put a drop or two on her tongue If she ever gets the shakes again. Jim:

If she was stung by a bee, you should have seen a swollen spot on her nose or wherever she was stung. Maybe something scared her. Don't make a big fuss over her when she seems nervous. If you don't see improvement in twenty-four hours, take her in for a check-up. And from now on, go out in the yard and see if anyone is teasing her or throwing rocks at her.

nutrients hypersensitive reactions reason this often times, some dogs can not devour corn and that is in lot of the dogs meals. stay faraway from human nutrients and get grain loose dogs nutrients. also flea hypersensitive reactions may reason this. the perfect element to do is get a pores and skin scraping from the vet to rule out any mange, fleas or mite problem's. secondary infections will come next and kill your dogs.

When there is any unusual behavior that you can not explain, especially if lethargy is involved you must take your baby to the vet. right away. Lethargy is never a good sign, so do the best for you both. Good Luck.!

my jack russell does that sometimes too. He seems to freak out when there is something buzzing around him. I just occupy him with something else when we come in. Play with your dog and let them know that everything is okay. Or just scoop them up and hold them, my dog loves that and goes to sleep feeling very safe.

well i have a dachsund also . and if it storms or if a bug was in the yard or if she got bit by something then it does traumatize them my gets that way if it storms and shakes and quivers whne comes back in . but if she got bit by something and you dont know what it was then it best to have your dog checked out by a vet just to make sure that what did bit it didnt carry any diseases.

sounds like your vet is an idiot no offense. keep your eye on your dog and if she is still acting strangely try bringing her to another vet. any sane vet wouldn't give advice without examining the dog... if he's wrong you could probably sue.
