I know this should probably be put under the Polls and Surveys catagory, but since it pertains to religion I thought I 'd post it here. Anyway...
Do you think you would get more out of this yahoo! answers forum and get better questions about your "particular" religion if they divided the "religion/spirituality forum into separate catagories? YES or NO?
An example would be: Islam, Christianity, Buddhism/Hinduism, Pagan/Wiccan, and Other Spirituality.
Besides saying just YES or NO, feel free to add your thoughts and/or comments on this.
Thankyou in advance!

Its not the rantings I'm concerned about, its the knowledge I hope people would gain from separating them into categories.

I don't know. I think the trolls would follow wherever we go.
I wish there was a troll filter where you could block questions with certain words or posed by certain members. It's hard to find a legitimate question sometimes.
And we do get so many in R&S. I hate when I see one in voting that I didn't see when it was open for all the nonsense questions.

I'd vote no. Too often people isolate themselves and only associate with people who share their beliefs. This is good to strengthen the beliefs that they already have but does nothing to help them learn to understand other people's viewpoints and expand their awareness of other religions. There are plenty of forums and yahoo groups that a person can join where the members are all of the same (or similar) faith. There are plenty of opportunities that currently exist for interaction with people of similar beliefs. I like the fact that I can come on here and learn ALL different views and I can learn about many different religions. I can see how the members of those religions treat each other and how they treat those who do not believe the same as them. I really like the diversity here and the opportunity to learn and watch. Whether people realize it or not, when they post something here and identify their faith, they are a representative of that faith to many people. The questions and answers presented by such a varied religious base (as well as those who do not believe in any religion) are intriguing and could not be found in the context of a forum where everybody believes roughly the same things.

Yes, No, Maybe.
I'm here because there is apparently an enourmous amount of ignorance concerning "Christianity" in general and the Bible specifically. I enjoy being able to provide Biblically sound answers to serious questions, regardless of the beliefs of the asker/seeker. I try to ignore the rantings! 80-)
I would not have any interest in perusing the other suggested topics and I think I would miss out on some interesting conversation if they all left this generic topic forum.
BTW, "ignorance" is not a hate term. It is defined as "the lack of knowledge or education".

No because I read about other religions as well. My personal view is this-You cannot be an effective witness for God if you do not understand others' beliefs. Therefore separating this category would simply leave people blind and naive concerning other religions.

YES It might be a good idea since we would have some idea of the category when we opened it, but you would still have people who will come in to answer questions just to be rude. You can't escape it.

I think "Religion" and "Spirituality" should be under two separate categories because they are vastly different. It would be helpful, though, to have sub-categories of "Religion", those being the different world religions such as Christianity, etc.

Sounds like you're afraid of genuine debate, let's separate all the religions, so you'll only have to deal with people who think like you. There's no growth there, but if you circle the wagons close enough, you'll only have to talk to fellow Christians, and you'll be able to keep the "evil" of any dissent out.

Definitely YES. Besides a general category we badly need subcategories like those you mention. I don't know why Yahoo didn't think of that when setting up the system.

No. How do we learn tolerance of others beliefs if we have to go to our 'own little corner'. In the real society we mix, we don't have that 'separate but equal' status that is just underlying discrimination. Why bring that here.

Yes and no. I do think it would help, but people that wanted to cause trouble would just go to the other categories and cause problems. And many would purposly mis post just to get ppl riled up.
