The symptoms of Chlamydia are more aptly described as 'red eye' - there is significant swelling and cherry red color to the conjunctiva, stinging pain, and thick goopy yellow to greenish discharge. It's a long way from traditional 'pink eye.'

While it's only one of several infectious agents that may affect the eye in cats, Chlamydia is notable for three reasons: 1) it's often an indicator of underlying feline herpes virus infection; 2) it can cause serious long-term damage including corneal scarring and adhesions; and 3) it often doesn't respond to the usual triple antibiotic medications. (Terramycin is the typical first treatment of choice, BTW.)

because that is the name of the bacteria that causes the eye problem in the cat (different species of bacteria as the STD but same family)
