Usually you just have to show them where it is -- they prefer to have somewhere to bury their "mess"

All of the above ideas are fine for daytime. My kitten when i brought her home was 3-4 months old and a stray. We would watch her during the day and at night put her in the bathroom with the litter box and close the door. Two nights and never had an accident since. You might also try this. When she poos outside the box and you clean it up, put some of it in the litter box and show it to the kitty. The smell of the old poo will more than likely lead her back there the next time she has to go. Also since she is so young another idea may be to have multiple litter boxes throughout, the home, until she is older, especially if you have a very large house. Cats are naturally clean animals, it shouldn't take more than a few days. If you just brought her home, she is probably still a bit nervous as well.

1. Does the kitten prefer a place to litter, possibly in a corner of a room or under a table, if she does, just place the litter box in that place
2. Usually cats prefer privacy when littering, maybe covering the litterbox with cardboard boxes might help
3. Try using coarse sand on a newspaper, if the kitten uses the sand to litter, possibly something about the litterbox is irritating her

Put her in the litter box after she eats or drinks and other times throughout the day. Use her front paws and make her dig in the litter and scratch around to teach her to dig and cover she will eventually catch on. It is fairly common for some cats to urinate outside of the litter box my not usually take a deuce. She will eventually learn it took my cats over a month to figure out that the litter box is not for wrestling.

For all the kittens we train at the vet clinic we simply place a shallow pan(like a pie plate) with a small amount of litter. We keep them in a large kennel/crate. They pick up where to go QUICK. Sometimes they miss the pan, but they will get the hang of it. After all she still is a baby.
Also when she messes on the floor clean it with a product like Natures Miracle or Urine Off to neutralize the odor & keep her from thinking that everywhere is a liter box.

When I used to have kittens, we would put them in the litter box and dig around a bit ourselves. Usually the kitten would get the idea and dig too, but if it didn't we would take it paw and dig for it just so it got the idea. I never really had much problem with kittens learning this skill very quickly.

You need to show her where it is and put her in it. She may use the box right away. If so, you're good to go. If not, you'll need to put her in there occasionally until she does. Some cats like the litter box to be in a private place or covered. Make sure you keep the box clean.

Litter training was so much easier then I thought it would be. I started at four weeks old and bought a small box that they could crawl into. At 2 months old they can climb into any size box. You can watch for when your kitty is done eating or drinking and place them in the box, they catch on really fast. You can also take their paws and show them how to dig, and they take to doing that really fast too, gl!

Sometimes at first they don't like the idea of the litter. I have done this before, mix a little bit of dirt in with the litter. when she gets the idea of going to her box, take the dirt away and use pure litter. I know it sounds crazy but it works. Hope this helps.
