Religion has been said to be something that sets you on the right path, but all I see are people taking the money from church just for reading a book, and buying whatever they feel like buying, people blow up other people for their religions, and deep down it just feels like a slick ploy to control others actions. If religion creates so much fear (fear of going to hell), hate (holy wars), and death (religion is the sole cause of countless wars), how can it be a good thing?

religion is like any other ideology or -ism, it can be either good or bad depending on how people use it, but i agree that religous people always try to make it seem like only the good and moral life can come through religion which is not true.

I am not religious but I heard an interesting thing on NPR. A research group surveyed people all over the world, asking if they were happy. It was a little more technical than that but that is what it boiled down too.
They found that there was a direct correlation between the amount of money a country had and how happy the people were. Money apparently does buy happiness.
The exceptions were extremly religious countries, especially Roman Catholic countries in central and south america. The individuals in these countries were poor but very happy. Apparently religion can do some good.

I understand exactly what you are saying. You're right on all aspects. I do not wish to judge anyone that goes to church and believes they are doing what is good. There are many good people who do go to church. And many who are going just for image reasons, and others out of fear. And yes, I strongly believe it is a ploy coming from different levels of religion. We could view it as a pyramid, those on the top of the pyramid know exactly what religion was designed for (controlling others through fear) and those on the bottom of the pyramid only know what we are led to believe about religion, it is a great deception. It is sad, but true.

Religion is a horrible thing. Its retarded. Religion is just something that humans created to clear their conchience. They think that Because they speak to thrier god it makes everyhting ok and that you have atoned for what you did. NO. Thats bs. Also religion was built on the peoples fears. Fears about death, whats right and whats wrong, and why r we here. It prays on fear. I do not belong to any religon at all and I am compleetly happy.

It depends on your viewpoint and the viewpoint of those to whom you are listening. It can be a good thing when used for the proper reason and if it give solace and meaning to the user. Anything in this life - including religion - can be both good and bad. Good if used in the way it was originally intended and bad, if it is not. Look at the Internet for example. It is a wonderful place for obtaining information, etc. However, when people use it for evil purposes (terrorism, porn, foul-mouthed language on forums such as this) then it becomes a negative thing.

It's comforting to the human mind to think that there's something out there more powerful than us that will help out when things go bad. I believe that's the concept that created religion. But nowadays, it is used an exploited for personal gain and murder. Humans and their corruption have done this.
The reason for this is that they've forgotten the lessons and values their religion (whatever one it is) has taught them, and they're more focused on controlling others to be like them.

A lot of harm has been done in the name of religion but religion is just like anything else. It can be used for good or bad. Religion in and of itself is amoral. It's how people use it that determines if it is good or bad.

People who cause wars for a religion arent doing it for their religion. They are doing it for themselves. For power or wealth. Read the bible. Religion is about morality and helping others, not hurting them. And it is about life, not of death.
