I hate exercise. But, after I got finished having a tantrum and realizing my belly wasn't going away, I realized I had to start walking.

About two months ago I started. Five minutes. Ten minutes. Every other day. This week, I've averaged about 50 minutes a day. I put songs on my Ipod that I can walk to and I swear it's better than therapy. :) (It averages out to about 3 miles-- on flat terrain)

Dare i say it, I actually think I might start enjoying it. There have been periods where I've thought, "Nope. Not gonna do it." And I haven't. But, the next day I try again.

I think being nicer to myself has made the difference this time. My clothes are starting to feel better.

Good luck!

I walk 4.8 miles at the local forest preserve's trail. (Trail is for bikers, joggers, walkers, skaters, etc. -very nice 'cause you don't have to worry about traffic). I definately go every weekend & if I'm not too tired & it's pretty nice out, I go after work. I enjoy a combination of walking/soft jogging for about 1 hr. (that's how long it takes me to do the whole trail). I've noticed that my pants fit a lot better around the hips & legs - they're not as tight as they used to be. Also, for my arms I carry 2 one lb. dumbell weights in each hand (I got them at the local Dollar store for $1.00 each). I work my arms as I walk so that they get some exercise and toning too!! Walking alone is very good exercise, as that's what most docs recommend. Full Jogging and/or running isn't good for your joints, especially in "older folks", unless you've been doing it for a long time.
If you've hardly ever exercised, then I would suggest you start w/ walking, it's okay to start slow at first until you build up your stamina little by little, then you can do what we call the "power walking". You will DEFINATELY notice the differrence!! It's better to go first thing in the morning, say around 7:30-0800 before that sun starts exercising it's power on you. Don't want you to get "heat stroke" or too dehydrated from walking in full sun. Should you not be able to walk in the morning, then walk at dusk, or once the sun starts setting. Where you walk is important too - don't go walking in strange places so you won't always have to be on your guard. Oh, one more thing - muy importante - always drink at least one full bottle of water after exercising & wait to eat until after also. Your system will be so revved up that whatever you eat after exercise usually burns up into energy & "fats" don't have a chance!! Good Luck!!

I try to run three miles a day, four to five days a week. Now that I have a son, that doesn't always happen, but it always makes me feel better when I get a chance.

personally, i think running makes the skin stretch , say when you get older and u have those really big stretch of skin u see most older people have. walking is way better and you lose weight, walking at least 30min to a n hr a day will help greatly..
