Take them to Petco, petsmart, or something like that, even the vet. Tell them that they need to stay together because it would be the best for them. Tell them they need a loving home.

Best bet is to have a trusted friend or family member adopt them. At least you know someone will take care of them.
Or, contact your local humane society or rescue organization about taking them. It's a nice courtesy to update their vaccinations and such first - it makes the cat easier to adopt and saves the shelter some funds.
I would highly discourage putting out newspaper ads unless you're prepared to check out the adopter. While rumors of Satanists, lab suppliers and such are exaggerated, they do happen; more likely, anyone who takes a 'free' pet from a newspaper ad is more likely to not take proper care of it. In a couple months, the cat could be homeless again, or worse.
My honest, best advice: Move to somewhere you can have the cats. You wouldn't 'get rid of' your children, would you?

When I moved to France from SC, I had to take my 3 dogs to a shelter - I found one where they don't euthanize except in cases of terminal illness or viciousness. Find a shelter in your area that makes the same promise. I'm afraid cats may be more difficult because they're harder to restrain. It would be even better if you could find someone who'd take one or both of them.
I know exactly what you mean about it breaking your heart. I cried and cried the day I dropped them off... and even after I moved, I cried when I thought about them, which was all the time, or when I saw someone else's dog... It's been three years now and I still miss them.
I wish you and your kitties all the best.

Make sure you add in your ad that the two cats HAVE to go together. Ask around see if your neighbors would want two sweet cats. I couldn't split up my two cats they've been together since they were young. If they are split up they could go into a deep depression and die. Just advertise and get the word out that you have two cats that have to go together.

Go to www.petfinder.com and look for a local "no kill" shelter if you don't have the time to find new homes for them. The shelter will spay them before adoption and the internet site is very successful!

Put ads in the local newspaper, put up posters in pet stores if you want! If you can't find a home before they move, try a humane society and tell them you want them adopted together.

Put ads in local papers. Explain that the two go together.
Leave flyer's at vets office.
Ask friends if they are willing to take them in. Even offer to have them spayed.
If all else fails take to a NO KILL Shelter.

Try to find loving homes. If this is not possible I reccomend your local SPCA. They will usually accept them with a small donation. Be generous they can use all the support they can get.
