the kitten is 2 months old. It has spent the last 2 hours running up and down through my house. I am a late sleeper, but 7:30 is when it decides it shall attack my hands or feet. Is there a way to calm down a kitten at 8 in the morning? That's all i'm asking...

~~check the kitten's toys... many cat toys contain catnip and this will make your kitten hyper. also try spending some time outdoors with your kitten.. i advise putting a harness and leash on the kitten so it don't end up being road kill. the fresh air will do the kitten good. another thing, if you are giving your kitten treats, check the ingredients, stay away from tuna and treats with cat nip in them, also be sure the ash content is low... same with the food. (try turkey... turkey has tryptophan in it and this is a natural sleep agent, that will not harm the kitten but may help calm the kitten. (think of how tired you feel after a thanks giving turkey dinner). at the age your kitten is also, your kitten should not be drinking milk any more...(occasionally, but not on a regular basis is ok) milk turns to sugar in the blood stream, and also can cause some hyperness in cats. -- if the hyperness continues, put your kitten in the bathroom at night close the toilet lid, and close the bathroom door. there isn't much in there to play with other than the toilet paper and the tooth brushes .... so be sure to put them up out of the kitten's reach.~~

Ahhh yes, the joys of a hyper kitten!! I have a hyper male kitten who is 12 weeks old. He is very curious and is very playful and gets into things he is not supposed to get into. Do you happen to own or know of someone who owns a large cat cage? I put my kitten in the cage at night sometimes, especially when he gets into things and I have to get up early the next morning. Cat cages are a blessing for this type of problem. Make sure your kitten has some of it's favorite toys in there and a nice warm blanket to lay down on and some newspaper in case he or she has an accident. In the beginning, your kitten will cry and you'll feel like 2 cents. But the key with kittens or any animal, you are the boss...not them!! Continue to introduce your kitten to the cage. Have the cage laying on the floor open. He or she may find it to be quite nice to get into for a nap or for quiet time on it's own.

Otherwise, you won't gain control over him or her and the cat will rule you!! Play with your kitten as much as he or she wants you too. Feed it fresh food everyday and fresh water. Stay away from catnip right now anyway. Catnip will only make your kitten more hyper.

Good luck to you and may you and your little one have a wonderful friendship to last a long time!

the others here are right about getting another kitten. The yare little just like children. the ywant attention and they want to play!
my 2 kitties are litter mates, borthers if you will. I adopted them at the sasme time for JUST that reason! if you have two they will play with eachother.. also, invest the $12 in the feeding buckets that will always supply water and food. That way they wake up at 4 am.. go eat.. run aroudn the living room trying to mock kill eachother (PS leave kitty toys out in the living rooM!) play with their toys and then by 6 am instead of coming to wake you up they will walk in, climb up next to you and pass out cold until 10 or so. Two kittens are easier than one.. for you AND them. The vet bill for shots will be a little higher but the vet generally gives a second pet discount (mine does anyway) but the extra money is SO worth it for my sleep and the kittens happiness! :) BTW if you geta new kitten now, they might not like eachother for a few days.. ignor ethis and it WILL go away! :)

Our Kitten wakes up at 4 am every morning and decides to bring his squeakiest toys into the bedroom and play. I have to get up and lock him in the bathroom - and I feed him which seems to help him calm down a bit. I let him out when I wake up at 5:30 am and he climbs up onto the bed and goes to sleep.

Good luck and sleep well!

Most kittens are hyper just before they go to bed, since they are nocturnal animals. You can shut your bedroom door (if you have the heart to I can't stand the meowing it's so painful to hear!) or play with her during the night, before you go to bed and get her really excited so she expounds energy. Another solution, buy another kitten, someone for her to play with and she'll leave you alone, at least part of the morning so you can sleep.

You cant really calm them down and what your kitty is doing is natural. Imagine...I have three that are 2 months old..lol Giving them plenty of things to do...I have the following things: a cat tree, plenty of cat nip mice and feather mice, tinkle balls, a crawl tunnel (made for kids but you can buy a cat tunnel at wal-mart for less then $4.00) a feather duster..lol they love it . When she bites on you you could try to replace your hand with something soft like a stuffed animal or something from the pet store with cat nip in it. The nice thing is my cats have each other and the do most of their play biting on each other. But they all gang up on me at 4am to refill their water bowl or just to get me up, little turkeys. Gl and have patience with the little critter :)

I would always leave dry food available for her to nibble on. Usually the reason they wake you is hunger. Also try playing with her and keeping her up when you are awake. I will also throw my comforter over her and let her feel you next to her. It settles my kitty down right away.

Do you own a hammer?

No seriously, you gotta let it play, get another cat for it to play with or give it an activity in the morning.

Try warm milk. Maybe once it gets its belly full it will go back to sleep. If that doesn't work, put it outside. Let it burn it's energy out there.
