As a former serviceman (Navy) I feel very strongly that women should absolutely NOT be serving in positions where they are exposed to combat- not because of a lack of competence or ability, but because they are female.
Women are the bearers of children, the very future of our race (human), and as such have a more intrinsically valuable place in society and should be protected from such things as combat as much as is humanly possible- if the majority of men were to die, women would still be able to repopulate the planet- if the majority of women were to die it would be a much dicier thing.
In addition the protection of women and children is the primary rational function of any society- men are important, but the point is to protect one's posterity- women are where that posterity comes from, and children ARE that posterity.
While there is no question that many (even most) women are competent to do the work of a soldier, no man is competent to bear children without massive medical intervention- logically then men should serve as soldiers and women should be allowed to be the extremely important basis for civilization that they are.

When we think of WOMEN, the first thing that comes to mind is a wife and mother a home maker, a caretaker, not a killer or fighter. The women's lib got what they wanted, so you are right, there should be no difference, but we all know that is not something that can be changed by a law, or a new rule. Women do know what they are signing up for, and go just as willingly into battle as they have done for 100's of years, now, maybe people will double think the extreme sacrifice they are making. Just because you CAN do something does NOT mean they should do it.

Because here in the good old USA we are taught to respect and Cherish women so when you here of a female soldier in a combat situation people as a hole here in America feel worse for her than they would a Man in that same situation that's why the government fights to keep women out of combat situations such as special forces and things like that a Male soldier would try to take care of a female soldier more than another man because of compassion for women if that makes seance

because females are not supposed to be on the battlefield. Historically they would always be at home raising the kids
Since the world changed and now females have their Independence now to make their own choices. Some of them want to be a soldiers. But naturally there will always be more protection on females because they are delicate in the eyes of men (at least the sensitive types)

Traditionally, a woman, being the carrier of a new generation, was to be protected above all else. After all, if a man died, other men could contribute their seed, but if a woman died, then the carrier of new life was gone. Humans being what they are, it's very difficult to change their attitudes. Personally, having served in the military for 34 years, I have seen women who were just as brave, just as dedicated and just as loyal as any man. It's not the actual sex, but the attitude toward procreation that is to blame

its what society has made it out to be. its not the females. im sure there are females soldiers out there that are like look at me look at me but not all of them. i am in the army and in korea and i know what i got myself into and i am prepared for it. but every soldiers life is the military is just as important as the other one. its society and politics that puts so much on the rep of a female soldier. and politics says it doesnt look or sound right to hear of female soldiers getting capture and killed in iraq its all about the paper and what it sounds like

I'm old fashioned, I think men and women have different roles because that's how GOD made them. It is the Man's job to protect while the woman's job is to nurture.
I do not want a woman having to fight for me. I would rather do it myself. Even if they would institute a draft for women, if they called my daughter up, I would not let her go. I would go in her place. I would tell them, it is my job as the father and man of the family to protect our home, family and nation.
But what do I know, I'm just an evil conservative hate-monger.

Because through out history females have been perceived as needing protection. We are the "delicate" sex. We are also seen as mothers, as care givers, etc., and therefore it is very difficult to see us as warriors. Additionally, you have to consider that one of the first things that would happen to a woman who is captured would be for her captors to sexally assault her - it is a humilation. Most people just can not right that in their minds.

Because when you lose a male you lose one, when you lose a female, you lose the potential for so many more.
This isn't my reason, just what some believe. I believe women should be given equality in all things they want!
