I just dyed my hair, it was only for highlights but I decided to dye all my hair that color instead. Now it is a bright orange! Like my avatars, I thought, no biggie I'll just dye it back, but my mom told me that you're supposed to wait a month or it'll break! Is this true?

I'm kind of embarrased to go to a salon.

Act confident.

Weird hair is cool if it looks intentional.

Your mom is right, you are supposed to wait. The coloring needs you to have some of your natural hair oil in order for it to work right. If you just dyed it and washed it today, you shouldn't recolor it today or you will cause damage.

BUT, you don't necessarily have to wait a month. It depends on which product you used. If you used a metallic dye, you MUST go to a professional to get it fixed...and don't worry, they will understand.

The reason you need a professional to fix it is that your coloring will react differently on a head that's already been treated by a metallic dye. You could end up with the funkiest darned color imaginable.

If you used a more temporary coloring, give it a week. The color will soften all by itself.

If you want to try pulling up the color yourself, you could really fry it. It's worth the $50 for a professional to fix it for you if it means you don't have to grow out "crunchy" hair for the next 2 years to get it back into shape. I fried mine so bad back in my 20s that it actually broke off in my hand when I was styling it. That was after coloring it just 3 times in one month. Reading the instructions would have saved me several months of nasty haircuts.

Not true! My sister does this atleast twice a year. If it just looks brassy try using dawn dish detergent (I don't know why, but I have seen it work.). Another try is Shout stain remover. These items will not damage your hair but may help with the color. If you can I would personally see a professional before trying anything else. My sister however has dyed her own hair up to four times in one day trying to fix color. It never worked but it didn't make her hair break. It was really dry afterwards. But everyone is different.

I had a friend that did that once. We ended up using a dye w/ gray in it (like ash blonde) to take the brassiness out. It worked pretty well. If you're still scared something will go wrong, just swallow your pride & go into a salon. They see ALOT worse things every day, and would probably do a better job getting the color the way you really want it. Good luck!

Actually, you only have to wait 3-4 days. It usually says that on the back of the hair dye. It usually only breaks if you dye it ALOT. Plus, if you are using a good conditioner it will be okay. Tough it out 3 or so days and you can dye it back.

Contact the manufacturer of the hair dye.. there should be an 800 help number on the box. Tell them what color you used and what result you got. They will be able to tell you what to do.. what colors to mix, etc... to get your hair back to a normal color. I know... I had bright penny copper hair after a coloring and Clairol helped me out a lot. And yes, I re-dyed my hair like the very next day after the first coloring. Just have to use a lot of conditioner to prevent damage.

your hair must have been darker that the color you just put on it. When you go lighter your hairs color lifts and usually turnes orange. Now, what you used was a bleaching product. If you want to still be lighter i wouldn't do it for about 4 weeks. When you bleach your hair it strips color from it and also protein. Use a good deep conditioning treatment to help your hair heal befor lightining it more. You can go to any salon and ask for a deep conditioner. If you wanted to go darker than what you are, you can do that right now. I would still use a good conditioner regardless. good luck

You have to be gentle with your hair, your best bet is to go to a salon and have them strip it, then start over.. trust me, it is worth it to just pay to have it done. If you don't want to do that your hair will most likely be ok if you wait a few days 4 or 5 then dye it again...but anytime you do a blonde or light red it will go orange, smae with anything too dark will tend to look purple...

don't go to a salon..it honestly depends on if you have thick hair or thin hair..if you have thick hair dye it all back to a dark more natural looking color..at a salon they will bleach the crap out of hair multiple times to turn it from dark brown to blonde..just do it....you can always shave your head if it doesnt work

Go to a salon and have them help you. They deal with this every day and will not think you are wierd or out of the ordinary :) If your mother is telling you that they will laugh, maybe you shouldnt listen. These girls and guys are professionals that deal with this kind of crisis every day ;)
