Learn Mandarin Chinese and you'll get a big $$$ job. It's a very tough language, but if you're serious about it, you WILL get a good salary in sales, customer service, import/export, etc. If you want to start with something easier, learn Italian. It's like spanish, but simpler. In Italian if the word for something is not the spanish word, it's the french word for it. If you know spanish and french, you already know italian, because it's just a very, very simple combination of the two. You could easily expand your languages from 2 to 4 in just a couple years. Important point to remember: A lot of ppl doing business with america from over seas speak english, but a lot of the time poorly. If you learn just basic key phrases in a few other languages, it will help you tremendously in a job where you are dealing with international customers.

I would recommend spending a year or two learning a little bit of as many languages as you can. Choose the one you enjoy most, and then stick with that... if you're learning a language just for the economic benefits, rather than for enjoyment, then you will probably find it a lot harder to stay motivated.

For something a little different, how about American Sign Language? Sign language is great fun and very rewarding.

It depends on what part of California you are in, but I suspect that you can find speakers of just about any language there. The Chinese speakers in San Francisco speak Cantonese, and I am also aware that there are quite a few Hmong speakers in California. Since California's on the west coast, you will probably find speakers of many Polynesian languages as well as Japanese speakers there. I could probably keep going.

Language learning is awesome and fun. Keep it up!

If you like science and medicine learn Latin since the majority of the words of those fields come from it. Plus some modern languages were derived from it such as English, Italian, Spanish, etc etc.

Japanese is another good one since it is having a major influence lately in the U.S. which I'm sure you notice in California.

Other than those 2 its your choice but other ones I prefer are German, Russian, Mandarin, and Italian

French is the second most widely spoken language in the world, after English. Mandarin Chinese is spoken by the most people in the world; it's a good language to study. German and Japanese are good to learn if you intend to pursue a technical career.

tagalog is a different language to learn ,it does though contain similar words used by most spanish speaking peoples. And it has many words that if you learned how to spell you could win the national spelling bee contest . Try it and let me know what you think. And if you ever visit the philippines it will come to great use to you.

English and Spanish are the most commonly used languages in the world. If you aren't using them frequently I do not believe any other language would be used as frequently as those two; at least in this country.
