Why won't my mom let me wear eyeliner?

Probably her own insecurities about worrying what others think. As a mom myself, if all you wanted to do was wear eyeliner and was otherwise a good kid, then why battle something so trivial, it isn't permenant and it is your face. However, in all fairness, a 16 going for that nasty gothic look is a hard thing for a parent to deal with. Maybe find a common ground with her, maybe ask to wear it when you are hanging with friends, but not to school or family functions????

Why would a 16 year-old BOY want to wear eyeliner?

Is it to shock your parents? Make yourself stand out? Make your own personal "identity?"

Got news for you, there are a lot of creative ways to do those things without the outside world wondering about your mental stability.

Your mom is just doing what she thinks is best for you right now. When you turn18 you can wear whatever you like - but hopefully by then you will have decided the eyeliner was not such a good idea.

she may think that if she gives in on this subject then you may want to follow through with the rest of the goth lifestyle choices(piercings and such) and she may think that people will judge you accordingly(book by it's cover thing) and treat you differently. i know that it is just a way to fit in better with your click, some people especially teachers(and other authority figures) might look at you and think that since you have the appearance that you do, that you are a devient or just a drug head(not impling anything here) but she may not want you to be mis judged!
And if you are not a goth she may think that people will believe that you are a homosexual(not there is anything wrong with that) and mistreat you that way. todays trend of "Metro-sexual" tendancies is more of a fashion staement than anything else. but she maybe afraid of how the world will respond to your appearance and mistreat you. she just wants you to be your own person and not cave into the pressures of fitting in with what others are expecting you to do.
in my case it was ear piercing and i really wanted one (just a little stud not the bling-bling of today mind you. But my mother was more afraid of how the church women would react to it than how people would judge me. so she forbade me from getting one,which seemed unfair at the time,but after a while i started to see her point of view on the matter.
you may need to ask her to explain her reasons behind her decision, and listen to her reason, not get mad and storm off when her opinion differs from what you want to hear!

Because she knows how ridiculous boys look in eyeliner and she doesn't want people mistaking you for a "boy of the night" if you catch my drift. If you were going to perform in the circus as a fire eater, maybe she'd be more flexible.

So there is the reason why she doesnt let you. your name is smashing pumpkins, so I must ask do you like rock music? correct me if i am wrong, do you want to wear it because all rockers do? you should tell her that because she might be scared that after the eyeliner you will start wearing blush, lipstick etc....

Many parents don't like the fact that their son is wearing makeup. Just a hard reality to except. She might think it'll turn you gay or something.... but i think that on the right guy... it's hot!
