That is just plain silly, and it is another way of that particular sect of Christianity to inflict it's form of false morality on it's followers. This is coming from it's preachers who have somehow taken a book written by men long ago, and (mis)interpreted the words to agree with what they are preaching at the time. It is mind control in it's most obvious form.

There is such a thing as Christian metal music. You can find some from the Free Stuff page on my site @ http://web.express56.com/~bromar/ on a couple of the links.
It isn't that a certain type of "music" is sinful, it's what the music glorifies. There's a metal band called Prophecy that sings songs about Jesus knocking on the door of your heart for instance. But most metal songs have to do with death, or evil, or getting high, or committing fornication, and so a person who is a Christian can't be giving the "Amen" to lyrics like that!
The group Apologetix does remakes of songs by groups like Metallica, Led Zepplin & Judas Priest but it puts Christian lyrics to the songs.

Some is pretty rotten. There are Christain heavy metal bands, so I'm not sure you can make a generalization here. I would suggest stay away from the bad stuff, and listen to teh better stuff. Also, turn down the volume, otherwise you'll be deaf by the time you're 40.

Keep in mind, that the struggle between good and evil is for our minds. Everything begins in our minds. We can choose to sin or not to sin.
However, keep this in mind as well, our eyes and our ears are the entryway into our minds. If garbage goes in through our eyes and ears, then garbage will be in our minds. Think about pornography.
As far as music is concerned, if the lyrics do not have any redeeming qualities, I would stay away from it. Also, the music may have hypnotic qualities that may change your mood and attitude.
Research has been done on this topic. I would recommend doing some of your own.

I once knew a Christian who wouldn't listen to Blue Oyster Cult because of the word "Cult" in the band's name. Nobody ever went to hell for listening to "Go, Go, Godzilla."
I suppose it depends on what exactly you are listening to, and how you define "heavy metal". There are actually a lot of Christian Heavy Metal bands out there, and they are pretty awesome, even though I am not necessarily "into" Christian music. There are also some pretty raunchy acid rock bands out there who glorify hatred, misogyny, drugs, and killing in their music, and I really don't see the point in listening to that crap. I would say, go with your gut on what exactly you listen to, and if listening to hard rock/heavy metal is the worst thing you ever do, I seriously doubt it will keep you out of heaven.

I wouldn't want someone to sit and tell my kids "only live for yourself, take drugs if you need to escape, your parents don't know anything, God hates you so hate him back." I don't care if it's a heavy metal song delivering the message or some kid in the neighborhood. I don't want them be indocrinated with those ideas.
But I wouldn't say "don't listen because it's a sin"--that's not my real concern. I wouldn't want them to listen because it's not good for their mind or heart. I don't want them to believe life is meaningless, or no one cares about them, or violence is a solution.
To me, your question is the same thing as asking, "if my dad verbally abuses me and tells me I'm no good, is it a sin if I listen to him?"

there are many christian metal bands. if listening to certian music causes you to stumble, then it is a sin to listen to it. and SOME christians say it is wrong. most are confidant is their relationship with Jesus and think it is so much more than the type of music they listen to.

I'm a Baptist,
i listen to metal, punk, and some pretty blasphemous music,
you know you can always repent, if it makes you that guilty.....
i guess i should repent, though i do not believe the lyrics, i suppose if it doesn't become my life then I'm okay........
half of the time i am part of my music, i need forgiveness, but why do it if I'm going to go back and listen to it again...
why must you confuse me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It depends on what direction it points to.
Psalms 150 says to praise Him with music, cymbals, lyres, you name it. If the music and lyrics direct you toward God, it is not wrong.
Many secular music have hidden agendas that point in opposite God's direction. Sex, drugs, suicide, even murder are being portrayed in music today, sliding under the radar with hidden meanings, meant to disguise.
Even some of today's Christian music don't always point to God. Yes, I can say not all Christian is God oriented. Let the Spirit judge in your heart. It should always agree with Him.
