Yes - many parts are now contracted out to smaller companies. Many of these smaller companies do have unions however they bring in many temp's and they do not get to join the union. When the opportunity comes for them to join the company just gets rid of them and brings in more temporary staff. Sad but true.

It's not the unions that are causing the financial woes at GM + Ford,but lousy engineering caused by bean counters forcing their hands into making a car for a specific price range.Thus the corner cutting and lack luster vehicle sales on substandard vehicles.If these cars were made in Japan with the same design,they would still be crap,only imported.Why do I think this?Because Hondas,Toyotas and VW's are made here in America and in great demand because they Last.

While they are all assembled with union labour, many of the component parts, from current out-sourcing are manufactured in non union shops.

No, thats why they are in finacial problems. The Union's are going to price them selves out of work!
